Disillusioned!

Yeah, yeah. All of our stories are very different. We're all brilliant innovators, and we all deserved lots and lots of great comments. The readers owe it to us.

*yawn*

The way I see it, the initial followers should 'follow up' and stay followers.

One point, bi (and, no I haven't gone to sleep. It's 2:30 in the morning and I'm working):

It has taken you over a year and a half to post six chapters of your series (and I presume it is still dragging out). Sorry, but how in the hell do you expect readers to stick with you for over a year and a half to catch a chapter dropping every three months? I think you expect (more than) a bit much.

The way I see it, the initial followers should 'follow up' and stay followers.

And now I've whambanged you on this exact issue. Tell me, what story here still being dragged out for nearly two years in an installment every three months have you followed and commented on on the rare occasion that a chapter dropped? Who have you followed up on under these circumstances?

I sort of think you should stop your whining and get this thing wound up and in the can.

You know what? If you add up the overall support I recieved, I think it is sizeable in a humble way , but
not as 'continuous' as I would of liked.
You talk about being prolific, I think I've delivered enough to a certain degree.
I think 10,000 words I've written in that time, of sultry, horny writing is adequate, don't you?

Obviously not to your level of productivity, but I don't think about that when I
pleasure myself to your 'vineyard stories of male abandonment' and others.

It's quality, not quantity that matters to me, but what do I know anyway?

We're talking time between chapter postings here, bi. I think you are being grossly unreasonable to expect followers to stick with you on a serial with three months between postings of a chapter. You've directly said you think they should follow the serial, and I'm directly saying I think you are full of beans on such an expectation.

When I'm running a serial, I post a chapter every three or four days until it's done--and I'm not rambling around within the chapters; the whole thing is completed before I post chapter one, so that it actually has a coherent and tight story arc. And I still lose readers in terms of numbers from the first chapter to the last that's posted (and dopes who only read one chapter and comment on as if that was all there was). That's the natural pattern here.

Yes, It makes a lot of sense what you say, but my only defence is that I never planned to
be a Literotica writer, and that being prolific was never an important issue. What was important
rather, was that everything I did write was from the heart, or at least the crotch. lol.
I don't mean to sound cheesy, but if I can stay at the same rate of productivity for the next
twenty, thirty years on Literotica, then my output would indeed be sizeable, if I so desired.

It sounds ridiculous making projections as such like that, but they are realistic.
I just must stay kinky.

BSS - maybe I can comment. I've read all of your stories. I kind of enjoy them. You have a certain style and mood that really interests me. But.....

Your mechanics really suck! Your spelling and grammar and puncuation are really off-putting! That might be stopping people from commenting. I know it stops me. Try to polish up your work, and readers might take it more seriously.

Really, your stories and characters are great. You just need to give readers more reason to accept you as a legitamite craftsman of stories.

I'm really becoming disillusioned about the feedback on my stories.

People claim to love them, have sent me lots of anonymous feedback and such and then
it all stops. The way I feel, if they don't like my stories and won't comment anymore, then
maybe I won't write new chapters and such anymore.

All in all, there must be at least 100 anonymous/plus real comments so far, but if they really like
my stories this must increase, yet it hasn't.

I looked at your member page. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the chapters of your series are in different categories. Most readers are loyal to one or two categories, the ones they dig through the archives for stories. If you have a series with 2 chapters in 4 different categories, they may read the chapters in the categories they like and skip the ones in categories they might think they won't like. Maybe, as a little experiment, you should try and write a series where all the chapters fit into one category and see if you get more loyal readers.

The way I see it. Truly, my stories are different. If I didn't write them, then nobody
else would until say, 100 years from now perhaps, when the new breed would pick up on them...
That's how good and truly fucking original they are.

Nobody else writes stories like me, I see way too much of the same bullshit though.

It's funny, as I think like that about my stories.

About your stories: they could be "genial", but they're too short or at least too few happens, in what way ever.

Just build some strange happenings in, like landing UFO's or the destruction of the whole apartment by your favorite girl, searching for the lipstick.

I wanna sit down and popcorn while reading your story!

Well, I'm talking about over say eight chapters. Hardly formidable numbers.

And I have 40 stories posted and still don't have a hundred comments! Total!

And neither do you? I just check your comments on you stuff and you have maybe 20 comments total.

So are we talking comment or reads or votes? Which is it?

I wish I got hundred comments on my stories when they were first posted!

I'm lucky if I get comments from my four or five trolls!

A hundred!

That's what I was thinking.

The ratio of comments to votes is about 1 out of 10, and votes to reads is about 1 out of a 1000.

10,000 words over a year! I wrote that much in a couple of months and have since pulled those stories from the site. I also have several ebooks in the novel and super novel category (novel > 35,000 words, super novel > 70,000 words) all in the past couple of years.

So quit you whining and stop writing if you only write for the accolades of that part of the public that you write for!

The OP was a complaint that comments had dwindled off as the posting of a series continued. It isn't really about the quality of the stories. The answer to the OP is that there's too long a time between the posting of the chapters (although I agree that the switching of categories also has an effect). You can't expect readers to hang in going on two years by posting a segment only once every three months.

That's the way I feel.

Just jotting down my thoughts here.

Nothing wrong with how you feel, but if the only reason you are writing is to hear people tell you how fabulous you are as a writer, then you are in the wrong place. Get some balls or stop writing.

100 comments on 8 chapters is a LOT.

New stories stay on the "new stories" page for 7 days. After that the only way for people to find your stories is if you post something new, happen to be at the top of a ratings list (easier now that there are lists for more recent stories) or have you bookmarked.

Progressive chapters to a story tend to dwindle the audience, leaving you with a smaller but more loyal fanbase.

Really, if you're looking to build an audience the best thing to do is start your own webpage and blog several times a week. Even if you don't post a new story you can still connect with readers and let them know what you are working on. The nature of Literotica is you just aren't going to get dozens or hundreds of comments for every tale.

Now everybody who replied to this thread has gone to sleep.
Good. I'd claim when I first posted this thread, I was also too drunk as well.
Who cares what anybody said, it was all in fun right?

All the powers to the Shakespearean authors of Literotica!

.. and I'm not one of them.....who gives a fuck....

Ye gods but you are one angry SOB.
What makes you think that every reader will leave a comment, good or bad ?
To me, a story has to be damned good to warrant a comment.
Bad ones I ignore completely.

I was referring to all comments, including feedback ones that aren't shown
on the comment board. There are 30 comments there, one of which is mine.
The ratio of none visible comments to visible comments is slightly more than 3 to 1.

Just because I think the stories have certain benefits/uniqueness that others
don't have, doesn't mean I think they are better than other peoples stories. Not at all.
Sometimes I think being rather boastfull of something you've written will
get a more interesting reaction, rather than being too timid.
