"You still want to meet in the library?" The blonde-haired Kathie, who was a librarian's assistant, nodded to her friend Jessica.
The two girls had their senior project to work on, a research paper into the history of the British Peerage. Boring stuff, but the English teacher who was on the review board really dug that kind of material. Mrs. Jensen, who was such a tightass when it came to grades, the joke was that when she farted only dogs could hear it. And, for some strange reason, the girls had not just dived right in with enthusiasm, but rather delayed until two weeks before the project was due.
But the due date was fast approaching. So when the final bell rang, rather than going home, the two girls went to the library. For the two geek girls, the library was something of an oasis in the overall chaos of the school. The librarian, Ms. Peterson, was well known as a no-nonsense type who ran a tight ship. So the girls at least could study in peace. Last week, Peterson had gotten two kids suspended--kids who were in the gang called The Snakes. Definitely from the wrong side of the tracks. The kids had just come back today.
Kathie was a natural blonde-haired blue-eyed blonde. Her mother was Swedish, and it showed. She wore shorts and a T-shirt, her hair done back in a ponytail. She was also six feet one inch tall...a giant among the girls. The kind who would normally play basketball...except sports were definitely not her thing.
Jessica was a natural brunette...and something of a goth. Not hardcore, but more than a little. She wore a black denim dress with a leather top, and a necklace with an inverted pentagram. At five-ten, she was taller than most girls, but not like Kathie. Her hairstyle was chaos...other than running a brush through it once or twice a day, the girl did nothing with her jet-black hair.
The crowd in the library dwindled...soon Ms. Petersen would close it. But Kathie and Jessica were both on the "cleared" list of people Ms. Petersen would trust to be alone in the library. So, other than guaranteeing silence, the closing would have no effect on them.
