Discreet Christian...

I deal with it by just being a jezabel :)

Sorry...my inattentive hubby had turned me off religion and Christianity.

I think many people think if you are a Christian that your sex drive must be low or vanilla, which is not so....

Christians are STILL just as HUMAN and SEXUAL as anyone...

Love talking to other Christians about our sexual struggles and how we deal with it in lieu of our faith...

When trying to understand sexuality and the Christian religion, you have to read and interpret the Bible yourself, rather than depending entirely on church doctrine. When it comes to sexual desires, the Christian religion is not as cut and dried as the church would have you believe. Most churches would have you believe that Christians should only have missionary sex, and then only for childbearing, but that is not what the Bible says. For example: in Hebrews 13:4, it says "Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge." This passage says, "Marriage *is* honourable in all, and the bed undefiled", it does not say, Marriage *should be* honourable in all, and the bed * should be* undefiled. This opens the possibility that God meant sex should be decided by man and wife, and that God judges only those who are unmarried where sex is concerned.

Also in Genesis 19:31-32, referring to Lot and his daughters, it says, "(31) And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth: (32) Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father." This clearly describes incest. God punished Lot's wife for disobeying his word, but did not punish Lot or his daughters for incest.

As a Christian, when trying to understand what is right and what is sin, you have to read and interpret the Bible yourself, you cannot depend on the word of your clergy alone. In life, church law is what God says it is, not what clergy says it is. In death, you will be judged by God, not by clergy.

On the Internet, you will find plenty of websites that can help you with Bible studies, particularly where sex is concerned. You would be wise to include your wife in your studies. When including your wife in your studies, you might keep passage the mind: Ephesians 5:22, " Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord."

The Bible is not entirely what your clergy told you it was

GREAT response...

And trust me, I do study and question the Bible almost DAILY. I don't believe every word that comes out of a pulpit...

The church preaches the Bible in a negative context, and they do this to keep their followers/flock in line. They do this by interpreting passages as God's punishment for the slightest infraction, but if you read these passages, the interpretations are not necessarily negative or vengeful. Unlike the Koran, (which are the teachings of one prophet, Mohamed), the Christian Bible is the teachings of many prophets. The Christian God gave answers to many questions in different contexts. To understand God's intent where sex is concerned, one has to read and interpret many passages. And to make it more difficult, much of God's will is written in metaphorical descriptions. For example: in Proverbs 5:19, it says, "Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love." This is in reference of how one should approach Jerusalem; however, it is also a clear metaphorical description of how a woman should relate to her husband.

God gave man sexual desires and free will for a reason. The Bible is to give man the wisdom to know what is right and what is sin. The answers you seek are to be found in prayer; however, before you pray, get rid of the thought that God is vengeful and unyielding. The purpose of God is to guide you.

I noticed in your profile, you say you are drawn to your secret "dark side". There are dark sides, and then there are dark sides. I am curious to know what you consider "dark side". I would prefer through pm unless you would rather post it on the board.

Discreet Christian ? Oxymoron?

Is that like jumbo shrimp? Military intelligence ? living dead ? ,old news ? , paid volunteer ? , Dancing card playing Baptist ? :D

Just wondering ;)

It's there if you look

Church always leaves out some interesting parts:

1. The first use of the word sin was not in regard to Eve eating the apple but in regard to Cain killing Able.

2. Why do people always quote wives submitting to husbands, but never: "The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband." 1 Cor 7:3.

3. Go, eat your bread with enjoyment, and drink your wine with a merry heart; for God has long ago approved what you do. 8Let your garments always be white; do not let oil be lacking on your head. 9Enjoy life with the wife whom you love, all the days of your vain life that are given you under the sun, because that is your portion in life and in your toil at which you toil under the sun. 10Whatever your hand finds to do, do with your might; for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going. Ecclesiastes 9.7-10 (part of it).

And most of all, Mary Oliver, a good Epicopalian poet -

Wild Geese (excerpt)

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.

Mary Magdelene is my patron saint.

this may be true but I think most people that are religious have been taught that if they give in to sexual desire they will have to deal with the devil in some way shape or form.

Actually, 1 Corinthians 7:3 reads: "Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband."

Benevolence is defined by Dictionary.com as: (1.) desire to do good to others; goodwill; charitableness (2.) an act of kindness; a charitable gift.

What you quoted is from the New American Standard Bible, which is not an accurate translation of any Biblical Codex or early Christian writing. The New American Standard Bible, (New Testament), was first published in 1963 in an attempt to make the Bible more acceptable to modern American social philosophy.

To understand God's commandments, you have to study the oldest biblical translation. The King's James Version is a reasonably accurate translation taken from the Codex Vaticanus which dates from 350 AD and is written in ancient Greek. Although the Catholic Church was founded in Rome, the Greeks moved toward Christianity before the Romans.

As far as I am aware, no form of the phrase, "conjugal rights" is used in 1 Corinthians 7, (either in the King James Version or the Codex Vaticanus). I know this isn't what you want to hear, but in the early Christian religion/church, wives were expected to submit to their husbands. Many Christians, (both men and women), still practice this today.

I just wrote a whole thing about Ephesians 5:22-33, and submission versus subjugation and suppression, but then I remembered where I was about to post it and thought better of it. I do have a thermal suit for taking some heat, but I just don't care about the fight.

I wholeheartedly agree. I think God designed our bodies to be able to enjoy sexual pleasure. Within the confines of marriage. That's what I was taught. Morality is the only thing that's kept me from being unfaithful. I DO believe in God but surely miss the warm arms of a man...

Thanks for all the great responses so far...

People need to realize you can be a Christian and still have VERY strong sexual needs and desires...

Anomaly, I think most people of faith know that your statement is true, its just usually when we frequent places such as Lit... we're in the midst of our own personal struggles and succumbing to the area that we have a weakness... Appreciate your post and thread.. nice to know we're not alone...
