Last year I bought one of those CD discman with the car adaptor thingy (cassette on a cord). Today something funny happened... I popped the cassette thingy in and it kept skipping like a normal casette would, from side one to side two.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Here's how you fix it. Go to the store and buy an actual CD player and have it mounted in your dash. The CD cassette adaptor messes up everyone's tape deck. It happened to me. Spend the money and get a real stereo system.

Mr Freaky to the rescue (again)

Sounds like the tape deck is messed up.. The tape deck is looking for something to play and it can't recognize the tape you are putting in it.

Buy a cd player.. bring it up here and he will install it for you ;)

Mr Freaky is Lickys personal mechanic.. *snicker*

Mr Freaky says "How much did you pay for it?"

Medjay, if I had the money for that, don't you think I would have bought it instead of a chump change discman?

I have a car CD player.. I don't have the money to have it installed.. and the CD discman doubles for my personal one when I'm working out.

All I want to know is how to fix the problem I described above.

Freaky, I paid enough.. and the tape deck does recognise other tapes. Nothing physically happened between yesterday and today for this to happen :\

The same thing happened with the one i'd use when i used to drive my mom's car...the tape player kept trying to "read" it. I just kept popping it in and out, and eventually it would catch...i'm sorry to hear you've got that problem, it really sucks:(

It has been my experience that CD/ Cassette adapters ruin factory issue tape decks. Plus, I'm willing to bet it would be cheaper for you to find someone to install your car CD player than to fix the tape deck. It's all a matter of pulling the factory issue deck from the dash and mounting the new unit. There are only two connections. They sell the kits at Murray's, Pep Boys, or Track Auto. You could probably do it yourself.

I so could not do that myself.. I'm a retard like that. I asked the shop where I bought the stereo/CD player if they would install it, and they said no because it's not the car that they first installed it in.

I can't get the plastic housing/ cover off the car to get the stereo in.

For a tank of gas.. and a nice quiet drive north.. that cd player would be installed...

:)

bring me altoids and I'll love you forever too ;)

Is this a new CD player? Used? I don't understand how a shop can sell you a unit and not install it. How long have you been driving around with a CD player you can't use?

I suggest you start calling around to different shops and tell them your situation. Someone has to have the correct housing for your dash and if anyone charges you more than 50 bucks you're getting ripped off.

Ok.. I bought this Alpine deck about 4 years ago for my own b-day present.

Car Stereo City installed it in the Mercury I owned at the time. I got in a major accident and it totalled my car, had the mechanic remove the CD player.

I asked them to put it in this car, and they said no.. they only install at the time of purchase.

"Buncha savages in this town"

Thats what popped into my head when i read your post...thats just brutal...buncha savages...

Mr Freaky says.. stay away from the water hose when you get here. ;)

Holy shit.. and Alpine? I'll trade you the stereo in Mr Freakys truck for the Alpine?

Mr Freakys stereo only works part time.. and it only plays the songs it choses to.

Don't pass this up.. it's a great deal.. I promise :D

Hell no.. I may be retarded, but I'm not stupid. I know whats I got. :p

ok.. next weekend it is.

yes, it works with batteries in it.. but that's not the prob.. it works with the cigarette lighter. i can't get the tape deck to quit flipping between 'side one' and 'side two'

Not when I'm driving! It's bad enough I listen to the music so loud I can't hear myself think.

Kidding. Actually I don't want to get pulled over for headphones.. and it doesn't make the car vibrate that way either. :D

I had a similar problem once before with the adapter. Try making sure the cd is playing before you put the tape in. It could be enough to make the difference.

I've never had this problem, but my brother claims that a head-cleaning cassette will fix the problem for a while. That's actually third-hand information, so I have no idea how reliable it is.

Inspect the cassette adapter for signs of oxidation on the magnetic sender -- a soft pencil eraser or Q-Tip with rubbing alcohol can be used to polish it, but DO NOT rub too hard or use a typical #2 Pencil eraser. A soft gum eraser or one of the soft white gel eraser will clean it without scouring the surface.

A trip to vist FG sounds like your best solution.

maybe this will help.......

Make sure that both wheels inside the holes turn freely. If they don't, then the player is thinking the "tape" has gotten to the end.

Also,
There should be a little white string on the botton of the cassette, where the actual tape would be in a real cassette.
Do you see the string?
