Disappointment

Well, I gave up a long time ago on filling up my empty inner life (do you know what a good therapist charges?!?)... so I went with the less expensive option of fierce outward appearances.

The girlfriend likes that option too... she gets lots of jewelry.

It might be a good idea if she doesn't flash it when she walks across the park. :)

Something you, and others, might consider the next time they're tempted to make alcoholism into a joke: I know for a fact I'm not the only one affected by it in my life...

Cloudy, does your "think about it next time" apply to the alcoholic who correctly answered his riddle?

I claim to be a "Reformed Lush, 'cause I didn't goto no damned meetings," but that only because people treat me like an invalid if I actually admit to alcoholism.

If I may politely point out, my intent was not to make fun of those with dependency issues, but rather to make fun of those with meeting issues.

Dependency issues tend to be a personal matter. Meeting issues affect everyone who can be forced to attend the time wasting sessions.

Nope, called away from the computer by the drunk I married .....um, I mean, I mean, my husband needed help with something. *gawd, where's the strike thru key here...)

Hayull yayus! Y'all sound ta' me like ona' them there ladies wears a Freudian slip.

OK, it's just past Christmas. I have lived in a lot of really crummy places and there is a nice park not too far from where I live. I try to walk through the park at least once a day. Since it is just past Christmas and it is cold, people are out walking their dogs. The dogs are wearing brand new Christmas gift blankets in red, blue, green, yellow, purple, black and even tartan. It is really a disappointment to realize that there is a dog out there who is dressed better than I am. Comment? [No, I am not going to wear a diog blanket, not even a coat of many colors.]
Oh Joseph! We wear many colours.

Oh Lord, Richard, someone who knows South Central! I worked at the Soc Sec office at 113th and So Central for eight years back in the day and I want to go on record as saying that it was an eye-opening experience for a naive white kid from the 'burbs. It told me race is nothing, class is everything but at least class is somewhat malleable. Now I teach in a school where any known ethnic or national group either has or will show up sometime and the lessons learned from those years stand me in good stead.

BTW, my dog loves me, eats kibble and wears the fur she was born in. Now if only I could get the wife to behave the same way . . . ;)

Let's see, if I remember rightly, 113th Street is Watts. I didn't get as far south as Watts very often. Yes, I can imagine you learned a little about 'people of colour' down there.
