U.S. Arrests Alleged Bomb Terrorist

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The government arrested a man with an alleged al-Qaida connection and suspected of plotting to build and detonate a radioactive "dirty" bomb in an attack in the United States, possibly against Washington. Attorney General John Ashcroft said that Abdullah Al Mujahir, also known as Jose Padilla, was in the custody of the U.S. military and was being treated as an enemy combatant.

Washington D.C.?

If it went off, it would only improve the air quality...

I can't help feeling this is on par with...

Bush's 'thousands of terrorists' speech the other night.

I hope I'm right...

Not sure yet Peeper. His travels have been monitored for a while due to intelligence recieved from another detainee. His return to O'hare from Pakistan prompted his arrest because he was being trained in the use of explosive devices. He is a US citizen who converted to Islam in prison, a Chicago gang member and being held under the war combatant guidlines, not as a normal US citizen.

The announcement was made a couple hours ago. Should get interesting.

But, dont forget, his civil liberities must be protected. How long before some attorney takes up his cause? After all he is an American citizen. Fucking Scum.

The AP story I read said he had legal respresentaion when arrested in New York. But, said his access to legal represention may be more restricted now that he's in military custody.

they aren't going to fuck this up on a technicality. Too much is at stake.

So the government has treated him fairly and not roughed up his civil rights.

One report I read indicated the plot was in it's very preliminary stages. In other words, the first test case of probable cause against terrorists. In short, he's probably going about spouting off a lot of anti-American sentiment and got picked up along with the usual suspects and began to spout off his nonsense. Note that no precautions against found radioactive material have been mentioned.

Exactly. Where's the evidence of the "dirty bomb." This is all a smokescreen to let future foreign terrorists (not domestic White guys) know that it won't be as easy to target America.

The evidence of the dirty bomb is in the Theaters now!

Where's REDWAVE to start screaming Krystalnacht?

I mean if they want evidence of a dirty bomb, wouldn't be too hard to plant the evidence, now would it?

Look for it to show up in a... a... a... shipping container. And a frogman was coming to get it and use the Mexican Army to smuggle it over the boarder while the bombers emigrate to Canada and Ben Aflack saves the world and becomes president finally ridding of us of that evil Bush, Cheney and all of the other catle ranchers in the moo-slim conspiracy...

Syn and Marx.....

Another government official, who spoke only on condition of anonymity, said the intelligence that led to Mujahir's arrest came from captured al Qaida leader Abu Zubaydah during recent interrogations.

Ashcroft said Mujahir "trained with the enemy, including studying how to wire explosive devices and researching radiological dispersion devices.''

Aren't you two of the guys who are so critical of Bush, the FBI and the CIA for not knowing about September 11 in advance?
And now, from your statements, I would infer that you are critical of our taking action! WTF!

They didn't know about it in hindsight...

I have been harsh on a culture which has been imposed upon our institutions. I have never been critical of taking action. Ever.

That last paragraph was not meant to be cogent. I apologize if it actually was...

This guy was a real loser that they arrested.

Now if you're the mighty Al-Qaeda, is this scraping the bottom of the barrel, or what? This is not the type of operative that you trust a big operation to.

Now all of this comes because one of Osama's top men is in captivity and singing like a canary. Or is he?

Sun Tzu in discussing the types of spies and the discussion of the expendable spy and disinformation...

These guys may be no closer to the truth than they were on September 10th or we have won the war and are now coming up with the dregs and residue, in other words, a mop-up action. Generally not taxing of the abilities, if you know what I mean.
