See if you can help me with a problem.

I have a USB TV Tuner for my G4 and I bought a 50-foot coaxial cable so I can run it into my bedroom. However the hookup hear is to a cable. So I have to F-type connectors that I need an adaptor to meet up.

Radio Shaq is closed.

However, Salt water conducts electricity. There can't be too much more than electricity going on in that cable. So if I make up a glass of water and then use my body's own natural salts (I have no table salt) could I get it working?

wouldn't hurt (to much) to try..

I always say.. try first.. think later.

That's why to this day I have a fear of 9 volt batteries.. ever put your tongue on one of those?;)

Actually I have a story along those lines

In Word History in High School me and this buddy of mine are messing around, it's realllly close to the end of the year, we've done the review for the final, we're set, so we're watchign a video for filler.

So me and my buddy start messing around on our TI calculators (YES, we are big NERDS! So there!) anyways, he has a link will him so we'll transfer programs and stuff.

So we watch the video some more, It's "All Quiet on The Western Front" but the closeness to summer and the lack of a supervisor that gives a damn leaves us to talk and whatnot. Anyways, we're messing around and he plugs in his link to his calc and hands the other end to me, I think he watned to play Tetris competitively or something.

Instead I stick it in my mouth. I think everything will be alright as long as he doesn't send a prog or something.

As it turns out, I was wrong.

The cable zaps me and makes my tongue feel all weird and gives me a really metallic taste to my mouth for 45 minutes. It hurt and my friend couldn't stop laughing for al ong while.

omg..

Ummm that's funny. Atleast I did mine when I was a kid and not an "adult" ;)

Salt water does conduct electricity pretty efficiently but it does not propagate RF energy at all; it absorbs or reflects it.

Is this an external tuner that connects to the computer via the USB? I can't imagine the USB cable has the bandwidth to propagate the cable RF signal. You should have a Type-F connector on the receiver (USB TV Tuner) to allow connecting the cable signal into the tuner.

The cable spectrum starts at 54 MHz and goes up to 1 GHz. Depending on the number of channels, the sprectrum actually used is probably less that that but figure 6 MHz per channel. Fifty channels would mean 54-354 MHz. That's way beyond the USB cable's bandwidth. The USB 1.1 signal is 1.5 or 12 Mbps depending on the device connected. USB 2.0 ups the 12 Mbps to 480 Mbps.

Hey, I didn't build the thing! I don't need your guilt trip!

Seriously, I was given it as a gif, So I'll try it out and see if it works.

If not, I will chastise my relative and ask them why the hell didn't they talk to Unclebill. When they point out that I have no blood-uncle Bill, I'll tell them they're not 'with it'
