Difficult issue of deciding which catergory my story should be in

hello everyone,

I am quite new here and just published the fist part of my story.

I know it may seem strange but I do not consider myself gay, although my story has been published under the category 'gay'

The story doesn't revolve around homosexuality but moreover the feeling of being dominated by a back person. The people involved in my story were people that weren't gay and were mostly married or ina stabile relationship with a woman and had the wish to dominate white submissve guys like myself.

The submissiveness was the base of the story and although I have had sex with many black men, none of what happened could be catagorized as 'gay sex'

If I felt I was homosexual or bisexual I would have absolutely no problem with it at all.

Maybe there is a better category for my story. Is it BDSM or interracial ?

Sorry to sound like a weirdo but this really is important to me and so I was hoping I would find some help here

Thanx for reading this far if you managed it:)

hey, thank for your comment explaining the ins and outs ( pardon the pun ) of posting such stories on Lit.

What kind of World do we live in where people have to be aware of receiving nasty comments or being involved in an internet flame war for posting a story like mine in the wrong category?

Again, thank you for your input on this which I take to heart and will leave the story where it is, even though I am convinced I am talking to the wrong audience in the 'gay' section. You are 100 % right, it's easier to keep things simple

Like most of the 'real' world, Lit is a strange place, where sex between two women seems to be a common (male?) fantasy and isn't necessarily regarded as lesbian, but anything between two men is regarded gay, and often not appreciated, except by those specifically looking for it (not my point of view, but that of the loudest Lit-trolls).

Regardless of your feelings about it, stories with sexual acts between men (and that's what your story is about, if I skimmed it correctly) will go to Gay sex, and will save you from lots of nasty comments. I guess there is no other way, and it is probably the best way for all.

This sort of fits the category. Forget what other people say. Make him neutral. would be happy to read and I might change mind. pm me.

Just my opinion, but put it wherever you think it fits best. As a service to the readers, just add a clear author note at the beginning stating the story features topics such as gay male, D/s, inter-racial, non-cons or whatever. That will let those of us that may be uncomfortable with such topics know ahead of time.

ok, great.

In other words, post in the category which i think fits best but edit in a few lines of text outlining the content ?

Your story, if it's the only one you have listed here, is totally Gay Male for Literotica purposes, totally (stated even) obsession by a male for black male cock taken in two orifices--and then describing that being done in the only sex act descriptions. There's nothing in here that goes to any other Lit. category. It could go in a bisexual category, but Literotica doesn't have a bisexual category (and there's no description of bisexual acts in your story).

Yeah, I'm not going to get into the categorization discussion. There seems to be no consensus and plenty of people seem to be triggered by the issue, for whatever reason.

I am promoting the practice that I've seen a few authors follow, of leading with a short note of a sentence or two before the start of the first chapter, stating something along the lines of, "This story included situations of ... blah."

For example, I am thinking of a particular erotic couplings story that includes a minor, but explicit, incest sub-plot. I could see some readers being surprised and unhappy about that. *shrug* It just gives the reader a "heads up" to decide before investing in the story.

Anyway, thanks for contributing and best of luck.

I don't recommend doing this. I strongly recommend taking KeithD's advice on this, because he's an experienced author in the GM category and is familiar with the reception these stories get if put in the wrong categories.

Lit is a weird place, and one of the weird things to get to know is the peculiar Balkanization of the readership. You might think people who read erotic stories would be a tolerant bunch, but they're not. People who love one fetish often hate another. Many people love incest, but some absolutely want nothing to do with it. Many incest lovers hate gay incest. That's why I HEAVILY encourage reading that article I linked to, because it explains in great detail not only what readers of each category are looking for, but the hierarchy of categories based upon which kinks and fetishes trump the others.

thanx for this discussion people.

thanx for all this precious feedback.

Obviously I have bitten off more than I can chew and need to re-think how to post parts 2 and 3 of my story since the saga continues.

I will spend the evening reading all this input and take your advice.

does gender really such an issue when it comes to doms and subs ? Why does everything have to be put into little boxes ?

I mean, what's the difference ? The story centers around a domination and submission.

God, I have so much to consider

Don't try to make sense of it. Just familiarize yourself with how readers look at things, and respond accordingly.

Keep in mind that Laurel reserves the right to put a story where she thinks it belongs no matter what category the author gives it--and she exercises this privilege.

yes I know this and I'm not questioning it either, but thanks for the reminder

Some readers are very threatened by anything hinting of male submission or male-male sex. If you post that story in BDSM you may get an unfriendly reception.

It's stupid, but that's how it is.

ha ha ha, very good idea.

I am about to post a continuation of my story and remain undecided. I would like to take the advice of everyone here who took the time to send me their feedback on this.

I guess it will end up with me posting the story in 'gay' although I wish there was a category 'gay/interracial' or even 'gay/BDSM'

To be honest, I don't think gender is an issue when divulging in the realm of Domination + submission, after all, the outcome will always be the same

maybe not ?

Just post it in Loving Wives. Everyone there is mad all the time anyway.

I laughed, but to any continued discussion of where the author could post this, I'll just note that this one clearly is GM and that's where Laurel would (and did) place it--I guarantee that. Discussion of where the author could post it becomes so much wheels spinning and unnecessary thought--and is missing the point.

oh well, never mind. I'll just post the next part in 'NonHuman'

( just kidding )

have a nice day y'all
