I bought this book yesterday. It's 400 pages, no illustrations or photos. It's intensely interesting, though. The sales person blushed when I set it on the counter. I winked at him. Has anyone else read it?

Yes, and sold most of my books on ebay. I think I still have The Loving Dominate

I found this at 1/2 Price Books a few weeks ago. It is a very interesting read, but I got distracted by other things and stopped. I need to pick it up again.

When I bought it I also bought a Suzie Bright book of erotica that had a *very* risque cover. The clerk said "You'll want a bag of course?" and I said "Oh no dear, I'm fine thanks. " :) I think he went 6 shades of white. LOL

I liked playing the sales person. A little wink, a little smile. It goes a long way.

It's definitely one for the library, and there's a copy in mine. (I almost never sell books!) But while Gloria Brame's a fine enough author, I personally didn't/don't buy into her brand of kink. She feels too politically correct. Too Commercial Kink. And a little too self-important, perhaps. It manages, IMHO, to be both clinically technical reading, and touchy-feely-hold-handsy-warm-fuzzy, neither of which turns my personal screws.

My suggestion is, read, study even, but salt liberally. It's ot the gospel it wants you to believe it is. (Screw the Roses: much better. The Loving Dominant: Best in my collection.)

That book was amazing, I still have it around, overall it taught me alot...from experienced people in the lifestyle. I read it before I had any experiences at all:) Loved it.

Yup I've read it. I found it a bit dry, but very informative. I liked Loving Dominant much better, too. We oughtta have a thread showing all of our kinky books in it. Maybe I'll start one.

One interesting one I found was an English translation of psychpathia sexualis by Kraft-Ebing. Very good from a historical standpoint, as medical/psycholigical science has improved since then.

My library's pretty extensive, though not completely exhaustive, by any stretch of the imagination. Mostly, I'll buy just about anything that fits the topic, and only give it a cursory skim at first, to determine whether or not I think it's crap. ;) I actually don't even have a copy of Screw the Roses..., much to my dismay. I almost picked up a copy years ago, when it was still a back-room small press publication, but I bought something else- Different Loving, possibly. Whatever I bought, I recall kicking myself once I got it home.

I've read Different Loving and I didn't find the _interviews_ dry at all. :) The rest was informative, yes. As I recall, it covered a great deal of ground, not all of it strictly bdsm. It's been almost ten years since I read it, and I imagine things have changed a lot since then. The various subcultures, particularly the bodymod ones, have certainly grown enormously and have become much more popular. In fact, I wouldn't even call bodymod a subculture anymore, given that it's almost as common now to get your belly or eyebrow pierced as it is to get your ears pierced. Wish they'd do an update.

I thought the interviews were the worst part. They picked some real dingalings to interview.

That was the whole point, I imagine. To be "representative" of what's (or who's) actually out there? :p

So you think that bdsm women are dingalings, eh?

Next you'll be telling us that their men lack knowledge of the true ways of mastery.

Yes, and recommended both that and The Loving Dominant to Betticus while he is exploring and learning.

So you two are a couple?

No, we're not. He's called me his mentor, and he comes to me with a lot of his questions. He often IMs me about his posts here and asks for my input.

Editted to add: Betticus and I are friends, although I often tease him about his 'harem' and he admits to being an attention whore. :p

Wow. That's a nice thing to reinforce.

I do like attention, lots of it and from women. When I'm in a relationship I love lots of female attention but only from one woman. In return she gets a lot of attention from me.

Then get yourself into a relationship.

They weren't my sexual harem. Just some very close female friendds that I took care of. Kind of a substitute for what I really need, just enough to get by with but still not everything.
