Maybe 100 miles as the crow flies, but about 125 miles by motor vehicle and paved (mostly) roads. It is Kentucky after all.

You need to add a lot more context to this.

How about that a lot of the Generals on both sides came from West Point and actually fought against each other.

Or how about brothers were fighting brothers on different sides, or even fathers vs sons, or uncles vs nephews, or any other way you want to put it.

It was family members fighting family members in a lot of the battles that were fought.

So just saying that the two different presidents, were born 100 miles apart doesn't mean much, especially during that time when 25 miles was a full day of travel. So 100 miles back then was pretty much like being from another country as it was 4 days of travel or more.

And 7 months has no bearing on their relationship, either.
