Did the Democrat Party do better or worse than if the Communist Party didn't exist?

Seems they did worse. Without the Communist movement of the 20th Century, we'd still have a JFK-style Democrat Party, which would actually be pretty decent. Cutting tax rates, bringing pride to America, that sort of thing.

Fawkin' lying-ass wingnut fucktard!

There are NO MARXISTS

COMMUNISTS

SOCIALISTS

FASCISTS

or

REDS

in the party of progressive pragmatic centrism!

uhhh, you do realize that there were significant tax cuts, don't you?

Never mind, your head is filled with rush.

 You mean like letting the Bush tax cuts expire? Keep smoking the DemoWeed and thinking there have been tax cuts. Repeating a lie makes it true, right?

There may have technically been items that reduced the tax owed by certain people meeting certain criteria, but I want to know what percentage of adults in the US did they apply to? It sure as fuck ain't "95%."

I'll wait.

Annual changes in the IRS standard deduction, child tax credit, and mileage reimbursement rates don't count.

Nor do reductions in tax owed due to reduced income levels.

As Bam stated yesterday, the election results were caused by a simple misunderstanding of his policies.

"Reduce taxes" is one of those nebulous weasel phrases whose meaning depends, in the Clintonian sense, on what's in the mind of whoever says it.

To Democrats, there are less taxes being collected (due to the suck-ass economy) so they can correctly say they've "reduced taxes," but they want you to think it means they've reduced tax rates, and just play along when their useful idiots nod in agreement, while chuckling inside and thinking gotcha, suckah!

But, but, but, he's the greatest communicator ever! That's like calling Bush a dunce, yet claiming he masterminded 9/11.

He is an idiot. Watching his speech yesterday, he still doesn't get it.

Its been my experience that people are okay with taxes when they value what their tax money produces. Theyre okay with building schools and not okay paying spotted owls to dropout of school and make babies with every teenage stud muffin in the hood.

Interesting question.

The mid century Democratic Party was of course intensely anti-commie. The big Cold Warriors were liberals, while there was a very strong isolationist wing on the Right.

The CPUSA made many attempts to take over the industrial unions and the story of that infighting is largely unknown.

The New Left of the late 60s was definitely influenced by Maoism and academic Marxism, but despite some posturing by folk singers, they really didn't care too much for the actual dirty shop-floor stuff; which obliges one to rub elbows with the white proles in all their tacky glory. The New Left folks preferred the glory of third world anti-colonialist rebellion and Franz Fanon and whatnot.

I just started this book: Stayin' Alive: The 1970s and the Last Days of the Working Class which is about a lot of this stuff. Really interesting.

So if you are saying that the baby boomers of the New Left had a whole lot to do with killing off the mainly white, mainly socially conservative, definitely anti-communist New Deal Democrats, I'll agree with you.
