Sorry to confuse you. It's the difference in language.
Vous comprends? :D

Sorry, I forgot, you are in New Zealand. I, on the other hand, am in Canada where we speak plain English.

C'est vraie? (and a form of French):D

Is what true? Yes plain English you speak but it is a little alésage. Here we add classe and a have a style all of our own.

I am leaving this thread now unless Mig answers as I am sorry Mig, I have hijacked your thread and am being very rude.

Yes? Back to my question please? :)
quote by me,"4 stone? That is a LOT of weight. Do you have family members that have diabetes?
How hard was it for you to make the life changes you needed to cope with diabetes?

I find hypoglycemia very annoying."

No family members.I'm the lucky one and I'm not joking.I'd rather have what I've got than what they've got.

Adjusting was not all that hard once the initial problems had been sorted.Eye treatment(it really can make you go blind),blood pressure and general health.Weighing 18 stones is no fun,so losing 4 was welcome.

The thing I miss most.I am, or was, a chocoholic.

So you keep those choc bars handy, low blood sugar can be more than just annoying.I'm only saying that to cheer you up.

Your family have a bad history of other probs then?
I love chocolate too. But can very rarely eat it now.
It sounds like diabetes has been a big issue in your life. Did you have to change your diet as well?
I can understand losing weight was welcome at 18 stone but was it healthy losing it so fast?

LOL I store 1 choc bar (small) in the freezer but only break it out for a nibble at that 'time of the month.'
Caffeine is no longer part of my life as well as lots of other stuff. I get a 'high' from it and a sugar low. *yuk* No fun but nothing compared to what you live with.

Hey! it's not that bad.

My diet change, for the most part, involved not eating or drinking
the things that made me weigh so much in the first place.
Less fat, less booze,in fact, just less of everything of that nature.

Now I eat more fruit,veg,lean meat,wholemeal bread.A normal
healthy diet.

I still drink, but not as much.I think the local brewery went bankrupt.

And I eat eggs,would you believe,ducks' eggs.

As for family,my nearest brother is 70 and the next 72.So you expect some problems.

Things are OK.I may not be able to run across the fields anymore.
Damn! what am I saying?.I never ran across the fields anyway.

Are duck's eggs less fattening?
Your diet sounds great! I love wholemeal bread. It is so tasty compared to white which is bland.

All that beer was no good for you anyway! What about everyone else? :) I love an ice cold beer after mowing the lawn on a hot day. Just one and very rarely. It tastes great. (Tui, for me, brewed here in New Zealand)

I love eggs. Poached, scrambled, boiled, omelettes. Yum. :)
I don't think ducks eggs are very common here.

My uncle sent us some of these chickens called airacana's (sp?) but they lay blue-green eggs and are like 30% less cholesterol. The sucky part is that they have to have 18 hours of light. So we just leave the lights on in the barn for them 24/7 but we get about 6 eggs a day or so. We recently just hatched our first chick! Hopefully it won't be another stupid rooster.:D

Was diagnosed with type 2 a few months ago, it's been a big change but it wasn't completely unexpected. I had hoped that it would skip me but not in this lifetime. It skipped my brother who is over weight, drinks coke all day long and doesn't exercise. :D

Thank you! Are you type 1 or type 2? And how old were you when you were diagnosed?

I know you didnt ask me...but I am Type 1...diagnosed 30 years ago Jan 3, 2002...have given birth twice...and had my vision cleared with laser so I dont have to wear contacts anymore...am on 3 shots a day...and am in GREAT shape!

Cath

Glad to hear that.
