Let's settle this without fisticuffs.

In another thread, an author suggests that "Leonardo di Caprio is turning into Jack Nicholson before our eyes."

Is it just me, or is that statement indicative of a peyote experiment gone wrong? I'm a fan of Jack's and I can't think of anyone less Jackesque than di Caprio. No matter how many times whatshername in "Titanic" said, "Oh, Jack! Stop, Jack! Jack! Jack? Never let go, Jack!"*

*That screenplay won an Oscar®, by the way. Excellent performances by the ship and the North Atlantic, but the dialogue was right out of "Law and Order."

But what about Tootie?

she had her moments of fame

"When the world never seems
to be livin' up to your dreams
and suddenly you're finding out
the facts of life are all about you, you "

when, infact, its not all about her, is it?

I'm with you, I would have shoved his dead wieght off there too. I was amused over the fact that he was supposedly roguish.

Tootie was never given the chance to show her versatility as an actress, I would have liked her in the role of Mama Rose in Gypsy. She has the breasts for it and she could do it on roller skates.

its amusing to imagine him as a Di Caprio cicle...frozen for posterity with a stick up his bum.

Haven't seen "Titanic", cannot bear DiCrappio, not even for Kate Winslet (though I had to see "Gangs of NY" for Daniel Day-Lewis; but DiCrap and Cameron Diaz? What was Scorcese thinkin'?!)

Jack N.'s life? Would make a good Lit. serial.

Perdita

LOL........he's too pretty to be Jack N. anyway.

Natalie lacks Tootie's range. We're considering her for the fictitious role of Mr. Wong, Jack's personal valet, bodyguard and confidante.

Have you considered Mr's Garrett as the wise old ex-high school drama teacher that persuaded him to be an actor?

Oh, but you must rent it then, or miss out on one of the great comic chase scenes in film history. The ship is sinking, but not fast enough to suit Kate's evil fiance, who sloshes around in knee-deep icewater trying to shoot Di Caprio.

Plus, the costumes are worth seeing. Corsettes and beadwork galore! And that's just Mr. Stephens, the boat builder. Wait till you see the women's dresses.

No, that's Blair disguised as Mr's G.

Don't forget Kathy Bates as Molly Brown....I gave her a standing ovation until I realized she wasn't going to smash Leo's ankles with a sledge hammer.

and calling him "mr. man"?
oh god... laughing so hard at that thought

believe it or not, I think DiCaprio is a fine actor whose abilities are often overshadowed by his fame and off-screen activities.

he gets a bum rap for being a pretty boy and has never seemed to be afraid to try and stretch his craft. his role in "Gilbert Grape" was an awesome debut. I had few amjor problems with his Romeo, a role that , like Hamlet, opens you up to major criticism for not being what people thought you should be. He takes a lot of abuse over his role in a melodrama (Titanic) because it was a melodrama. one I actually enjoy, by the way, hopeless romantic that I am.

however he is no Nicholson or Depp.

You're right about Di Caprio. It's not his fault he's too boy-pretty for some of the roles he's cast in. I haven't seen The Aviator, which is getting rave reviews, because I just can't make the mind-leap to Di Caprio as the aging Howard Hughes when he is said to have let his fingernails grow to hideous lengths because his manicurist might give him germs.

I enjoyed Titanic too. High-budget costume dramas are the one kind of bad movie I'll happily sit through, if only to see a certain period in history brought to life.

I almost made it all the way through "Troy" for that reason. And laughed at it for the same reason: Brad Pitt as Achilles, "the greatest warrior of all time." Heehee. Even typing it makes me giggle. Di Caprio in Titanic at least didn't chew the scenery.

Thank you, Sher and Abby. I think I'll rent Das Boat for the larfs. Plus I love Kathy Bates, didn't know she was in it. P.

Kathy Bates is The reason to see Titanic. Although, I must confess a undying love for Kate Winslet. Hideous Kinky is a movie every woman in the middle of a nervous breakdown should see.

Overall Titanic sucked. I saw it when I was 7 mos pregnant with my seventh baby and the sound of the boat breaking in half was so loud that she bruised my ribs in protest, and that's not an exaggeration! The thing about the movie that completely broke my heart was the montage of the passengers on the lower decks as they realized they were going to die. The old couple lying in bed together... The mother trying to get her children to sleep before the water came in...

Other than that, the film didn't really do much for me. But that Kathy Bates, she's a hoot!

You'll never hear anyone say that about Leonardo. Oddly, I'd fuck either Tooti or Di Caprio. As for their acting, I'm going with Tooti. I've seen much more of her work.

Thank you belegon.

I was kinda scared to admit it, but toying with the idea of posting- 'actually I kinda like Leonardo'

And i really liked Titanic, although by the second viewing I was mostly pissed that jack went and died after all the trouble she went through to save him.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. I cried. Happy?

Not because of anything James Cameron did, the egomaniacal twit. But because the ship really did sink, and people really did drown. Thank God for the chase scene through the sinking ship while the lifeboats were leaving. I was able to walk out with a smile.
