Ok, Maybe this isn't the best place to discuss this:p But I am not one to adhere to coventionality!

As the title implies...tell me what love is to you. Share any experiences you have had...lust counts too
:D

Why isn't this a good place to discuss what love is? We do it all the time. The Q is asked very often, so I guess it IS the place to ask it.

Conventionality? Hey, I'm the one who makes words up here sister!

Irregardless love is.....The Maple Leafs. *sigh*

Does this mean you plead the fifth on the question? :p

Freedom of speech...what a beauty..and I have mind too ...AND I am not afraid to use it! :p

NOPE! In fact all it means is what it says.

Love is different depending on the situation. There's the kind of love I have for my family, the love I have for my friends, and the LOVE I have for life. Which love specifically are you asking about?

Any and/or all kinds that you wish to share or not share. That's all.

Love IS, giving your heart and soul to someone, or MORE THAN ONE. Being there for them when they need it, and them being there for you, when YOU need them to be. Listening to every word they say, and TRYING to give good advice if they ask for it. Spending HOURS on end with anyone, just to let them know they've got someone they can count on.

That's just the beginning of MY definition of love.

It can also be something that you LOVE doing. :)

Ahhh there ya go...now you are talking :p
Some of the love you described sounds like the true meaning of a friend. I think that is the first and most basic foundation that love is built on.

Love for friends is being there for them no matter what, never judging them for anything, and all the other things you mentioned.

Love for family is complicated to say the least.. there is the love for parents which is different than the love for siblings and other family members. The love for children, pets, neighbors, etc..all with different levels.

Romantic love ...well now...that is a whole mixture of all the types of love rolled into one.

I guess that is the true crux of my thread...to get people to think of the different types of love, be aware of them, nuture them, and to see that they are all connected in some form or another....

But the first key, in my opinion, is the love of self. You have to truly love yourself in order for any other type of love to be successful and fulfilling.

That is the biginning of my definition of love

Thanks for the thoughts Lobito
:) :p

You're welcome, but let me say, that what I described is how I see love from ME to everyone in my life, not a specific group. I do what I said for everyone, not just friends or family. Those close to me know that.

True the love for my Wife is a bit different, but not really much, just MORE.

Lo

Very well stated and duly noted Lobito !;)
I do agree, the different levels of love are on the same spectrum....relatively close together...but varies slightly for each person and/or situation.

You are blessed to have that insight ..so many aren't as lucky. And for those that are close to you to know this...you have such a precious treasure in Lobito...but I am sure I don't have to tell then that! :)

i can't ever hope to define love... but here are some poems that i think describe it well, or at least offer a glimpse.

I Loved You
Alexander Pushkin

I loved you; and perhaps I love you still,
The flame, perhaps, is not extinguished; yet
It burns so quietly within my soul,
No longer should you feel distressed by it.
Silently and hopelessly I loved you,
At times too jealous and at times too shy.
God grant you find another who will love you
As tenderly and truthfuly as I.

How Do I Love Thee?
Elizabeth Barrett Browning

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace,
I love thee to the level of everyday's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints,-I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life!-and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

Love and Friendship
Emily Bronte

Love is like the wild rose-briar,
Friendship like the holly-tree --
The holly is dark when the rose-briar blooms
But which will bloom most contantly?

The wild-rose briar is sweet in the spring,
Its summer blossoms scent the air;
Yet wait till winter comes again
And who wil call the wild-briar fair?

Then scorn the silly rose-wreath now
And deck thee with the holly's sheen,
That when December blights thy brow
He may still leave thy garland green.

Well thanks, but sometimes no matter how much you tell them, it seems it doesn't get through.

I'm fortunate enough to have a VERY few GREAT friends here at Lit, and they do know this about me. However if anyone in my so called "real life" is here, I'm not sure I want to know. ;)

I do not think love will ever have one definition...as it means many things to many people. Just like everything else...everyone sees everything differently according to their perspectives. That is the beauty of human nature.

Thank you for sharing those poems...and they are an example of how love is viewed differently as well. They are all beautiful.

Indeed!! You can't make people see what they are open to see. I am sure one day they will...just hope it is not too late for them.

LOL.. REAL LIFE PEOPLE??? *eyes darting around* WHERE??? *searching for a place to hide* :p

This is somthing I wrote for espressolove

Ok here I am coming out on the board with this.

I wrote this for espresso on her birthday. This is litterally how I start every day. And how I feel.

Every morning when I am putting the coffee in my esspresso maker.
I think of you.
Closing my eyes.
smelling the coffee
thinking of you.
Adding water to the maker.
Breathing deeply.
taking you fully into my lungs.
Waiting for my esspresso.
a few minutes can be an eternity.
waiting for what I love most.
smelling the combination of water and finely ground coffee.
thinking of your and I.
holding each other.
melitng into each other.
taking my freshly made Esspresso I bring it to my mouth.
eyes closed seeing you right there with me.
drinking that first sip.
tasting you.
swallowing that sip.
taking you wholly into me very being.

Love Lee

That was such a beautiful sentiment...

I am so glad you chose to share it with everyone.

We haven't been together long, but already I feel so close to you.
You brought me a happiness that has been missing in my life since my relationship dissolved.

Everything feels so brand-new...
Thank you llee. I am a very lucky woman.
:)
Kisses

Love?

Love is being able to sit with someone for hours on end without saying a word, yet feeling completely at ease and happy.

Love is knowing that that person would do anything for you, and knowing that you would do anything for them

Love is knowing that they will always be there for you, and you for them

Love is trusting them completely, with every part of yourself, with no fear of rejection

Love is wanting them to be happy, above all else, even your own happiness

Love is having them be the last thing you think of before you go to sleep, and the first thing when you wake up

Love is feeling pain when they are hurt, joy when they are happy, anger when they are wronged, empathy when they are sad

Love is the reason for existance, the bond that ties humanity together, the purpose of going on from day to day

Love is everywhere, in everyone, but it is too often taken for granted, the words too often said without true meaning behind them.

I don't think I would want to try to define it in one simple meaning, it has too many for me...

I Love You - Sarah McLachlan

I have a smile
stretched from ear to ear
to see you walking down the road

We meet at the lights
I stare for a while
the world around disappears

Just you and me
on this island of hope
a breath between us could be miles

Let me surround you
my sea to your shore
let me be the calm you seek

Oh and every time I'm close to you
there's too much I can't say
and you just walk away

And I forgot to tell you
I love you
and the night's too long
and cold here without you

I grieve in my condition
for I cannot find the strength
to say I need you so

Oh and every time I'm close to you...

Love Is

Love is the feeling in my heart.
Love is the feeling I had from the start.
Love is the look in her eyes.
Love is what lifts us up to the skies.
Love is the moment we touch at last.
Love is knowing our future will one day be our past.
Love is the letters I receive.
Love is never having to deceive.
Love is my baby held against my chest.
Love is a feeling that I long for the best.
