DeSantis says book banning has gone too far.

DeSantis, like many others, recognizes there's too much latitude in book banning.
Two parents are responsible for something like 45% of ALL book banning requests in Florida
Plot twist: their children are not attending public schools, they're homeskooled.
It's that sort of "bad faith" that even DeSantis knows is wrong.
Kudo to blowback bans on the Bible as well as all dictionaries that define the word "sex">

In the early and mid 1980s, there was a book called "Preparing for Adolescence." It was geared in particular towards kids in their early teens going through puberty, and explained the changes their minds and bodies would be going through. Much of it dealt with self-esteem issues. But there were very frank and open discussions about sex- both the biological details and the clinical details. Along with many equally frank and open discussions about spirituality and faith.

You see, the author of that book was a Dr. James Dobson. He was the head of Focus on the Family, a Christian organization. And a very CONSERVATIVE Christian organization, at that.

In today's climate, Dobson's book would be banned across the country in schools and public libraries- ironically by the same forces that once called him a staunch ally. Reason being of course, the book discusses sex, and is aimed at minors. And hence, it is considered "Grooming."

This is where we are at. How the fuck did we get here?

I know exactly who will be here after he's done sleeping one off.

^^^ That's not a reference to me~

I read this and had flashbacks of the Nazi book-burning films as they piled books into the streets and set them ablaze. I saw another clip today of a western state lady running for senator setting two books on fire with a blowtorch to dramatically espouse the same type of lunacy.

Florida passed legislation that threatened teachers and others with the loss of their teaching credentials related to this type of lunacy and curriculum restrictions. They are afraid of losing their livelihood and are pulling everything off the shelves that is even remotely nebulously related to s-e-x. [Don't say the word; spell it so the kids don't know what you are reading.]

Now, its non-certified teaching certificate governor wants to put the genie back in the bottle by adding more ill-defined nebulous laws to temper the monster he set loose. He expects those same certified/terrified teaching staff to fix his mess and fend off the crazies while he goes off to play politician again.

Bless his ever-so-big heart; he's got a lot of time to put those laws into action now that he is home and out of the national political limelight.

Meanwhile ā€¦ DeSantis is preparing to launch a singing career. His first single will be a cover of ā€œThese Boots Are Made For Walkingā€.
