A newly revealed document shows Gov. Ron DeSantis' administration diverted $10 million in Medicaid dollars to a charity controlled by his wife.

Lawyers working with the state drafted a settlement agreement that said Florida’s largest Medicaid contractor, Centene, had overbilled taxpayers more than $67 million for medications, according to a copy of that document obtained by the Miami Herald/Times. But instead of returning all of that to state and federal taxpayers, the administration sent $10 million to the Hope Florida Foundation.

"The money was then sent to two nonprofit organizations that aren’t required to report how they spend their funds," the Herald/Times reported. "Those 'dark money' groups later gave $8.5 million to a political committee overseen by DeSantis’ chief of staff in a series of transactions that some Republican lawmakers believe was illegal.
nothing to see here, guys, move right along on

and what about the remaining $57 million Centene overbilled? who's riding fat on that little windfall?

DOGE should’ve started with Florida (including / especially MAL and the Governor’s Mansion) if they really wanted to find waste, fraud, and abuse.

😑

🤬

We. Told. Them. So.

He is not a good person. These Republicans are all so corrupt!

They are always stealing money from the most vulnerable people. Alot of people on Medicaid are not sitting on the couch eating Cheetos all day, they are the working poor-janitors, factory workers, cashiers, etc trying to make ends meet.

Apparently everyone in Florida steals from the Medicaid and Medicare.

Let’s not forget that Senator Rick Scott defrauded enormous amounts of taxpayers’ money from those programs:

Scott was pressured to resign as chief executive of Columbia/HCA in 1997. During his tenure as chief executive, the company defrauded Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal programs. The U.S. Department of Justice won 14 felony convictions against the company, which was fined $1.7 billion in what was at the time the largest healthcare fraud settlement in U.S. history.[8][9]

Runty DeSantis is continuing the Florida tradition of corruption through his wife’s “charity”.

The party of corruption and dishonesty. 👍

News reports tonight indicate instead of the ten million dollar settlement being refunded to state Medicaid accounts, it was intercepted by Casey DeSantis, who then directed the funds to be split evenly and sent to two "dark money" groups.

The first five million was found to have been spent 100% on TV political ads urging voters to vote AGAINST allowing pot being constitutionally legal in Florida

The second five million was found to have been spent 100% on TV political ads urging voters to vote AGAINST abortion being consitutionally legal in Florida.

It is not known how much money Casey DeSantis made as a "finders fee".

Is there any way this can end that makes it impossible for DeSantis ever to run for president?

Leading the probe into the finances of Hope Florida, an initiative led by Casey DeSantis to move people off government assistance, were fellow Republicans — including formerly stalwart Ron DeSantis supporters.

The inquiry by a state House subcommittee ended abruptly this week after witnesses declined to testify.

The investigation centered on a $10 million payment sent to the Hope Florida Foundation by one of the state’s largest Medicaid contractors after it reached a $67 million settlement with Florida regarding pharmacy cost overpayments. The Miami Herald and Tampa Bay Times reported that Centene — the contractor — returned $57 million to Florida as part of the settlement, then sent the remaining $10 million to the foundation.

The foundation supports Hope Florida, a state program designed to provide “a warm meal, a bed for a foster family, or an outstanding utility bill” to Floridians in need, according to its website.
but it seems Hope Florida thought the money better spent on political campaigning to make sure the marijuana bill didn't pass:
The foundation then sent the $10 million to two political nonprofits campaigning against a state ballot measure that would have legalized recreational marijuana. Defeating the measure was a priority for Ron DeSantis in the 2024 general election. The measure did not pass.

just another day in gop land

This is really more important than anything else here. There can be no doubt DeSantis is preparing to step into Trump's shoes as leader of the MAGA movement.

the people turning on desantis (via his wife and her chances at gaining the governorship in florida after he steps down) are the ones pissed that he put himself up as an alternative for trump, seeing that as a disloyalty... whether or not maga will embrace desantis will depend on how much maga fools feel the pain of trump tariffs. He's more likely to get the evangelicals on his side, the ones who cannot (publicly, at least) stomach trump's flouting of the Constitution and the cruelty being imposed in the name of 'God'

Well, sooner or later, Trump will pass from the scene -- and his MAGA movement will still be there, waiting for a new leader.
