After instituting a travel ban on people from seven countries, the Trump administration tasked the Office of Intelligence and Analysis, part of the Department of Homeland Security, to provide a report justifying his unconstitutional executive order.
The report, previously posted on this site, showed that citizenship was “likely an unreliable indicator of [the] terrorist threat to the United States. In other words, one couldn't use country of origin as a measure to determine if someone was going to commit a terrorist attack in the U.S. Even worse, the report stated those seven countries targeted rarely produced anyone who had or planned to commit a terrorist attack.
Enter Trump who obviously didn't like the first report, prepared by experienced intelligence officers, telling him he was wrong and so, like Dick Cheney did, Trump ordered a second report, this one by other intelligence agencies designed to give the appropriate spin. The claim is the first report was incomplete.
As a result, the intelligence unit has split into two camps with knives drawn against one another. The atmosphere has been described as toxic, and some of those involved are considering seeking whistleblower status or legal representation.
