Will the Dum and Gup parties survive till 2020? That's not a given. Rumor has it that Mueller will indict both as RICOs taking Russian money. Both could be broken up.

Will whatever parties exist after 2020 look anything like they do now? USA has a history of massive social changes. Yesterday's Right/Left divide (a leftover of the French Revolution) may be more like Corporate/Populist, or Retro/Futuro, or Carno/Vegan or Natural/Mutant. A Prohibitionist party won many votes, back in the day. Gups may turn into the Opioid Overdose Party.

Some see Left/Right. I see Up/Down, Near/Far, social-political spectra running in all directions from a mythical Center in 4-dimensional space-time. Whatever comes next won't be simple nor obvious.

Our system (and most states, not CA though) was designed to provide representation to everyone. That means to win you need more than just the urban populations to win.
