Democrats can’t win until they recognize how bad Obama’s financial policies were

He had opportunities to help the working class, and he passed them up.

During his final news conference of 2016, in mid-December, President Obama criticized Democratic efforts during the election. “Where Democrats are characterized as coastal, liberal, latte-sipping, you know, politically correct, out-of-touch folks,” Obama said, “we have to be in those communities.” In fact, he went on, being in those communities — “going to fish-fries and sitting in VFW halls and talking to farmers” — is how, by his account, he became president. It’s true that Obama is skilled at projecting a populist image; he beat Hillary Clinton in Iowa in 2008, for instance, partly by attacking agriculture monopolies .

But Obama can’t place the blame for Clinton’s poor performance purely on her campaign. On the contrary, the past eight years of policymaking have damaged Democrats at all levels. Recovering Democratic strength will require the party’s leaders to come to terms with what it has become — and the role Obama played in bringing it to this point.

One I disagree with was the passing of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act "FAST Act" under Obama in 2015. Included in that law is a provision requiring the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to use private debt collection companies. So now debt collection agencies will, once again, start using that empowerment to violate your privacy, buying and selling your personal info among themselves and telemarketers. And, of course, they often call persons #'s repeatedly that have been passed onto you.

An added 'bonus', if you call it that, is that your passport will be cancelled if you owe the IRS. In some states like New York, Louisiana, New Hampshire, and Minnesota residents may have to start using passports to fly domestically. Which will be cancelled if you owe the IRS. It's starting in reality now.

Just goes to show that the only way the Democrats will start winning again is by becoming a genuinely left-populist progressive party in which Wall Street has no voice. Go Justice Democrats!

Well...if you ever actually get your license to practice law you're going to have to pony up some serious bucks. Because other than trial lawyers almost all of their money comes from Wall Street.

You do have a slight point though the one thing that the Obama Administration did do to help Democrats now and in the future is to grow the dependent class bigger.

Irrelevant to me, relevant to the question of Democratic Party fundraising.

 Have you not noticed that welfare as we knew it was largely and unwisely abolished in 1996, and Obama did nothing to reverse that, and the ACA did nothing to "grow the dependent class bigger"?

What did the country have to show for Obama's trillion dollar stimulus package? It was a total failure, just like he is.

Stimulus. The package really should have been twice as big, as Obama asked for, but what Congress agreed to helped the economy to recover -- slowly, but much faster than it would have without it, and the Great Recession has been over for years now.
