The Republicans fought this bill for years...

US to outlaw corporate prejudice based on genes

10:00 06 May 2007

Soon it will be illegal to deny US citizens jobs or insurance simply because they have an inherited illness, or a genetic predisposition to a particular disease.

On 25 April, the House of Representatives voted 420 to 3 to pass the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA). The Senate is expected to endorse the act within a few weeks, which is also supported by President Bush. "I am so stunned by the majority," says Sharon Terry, president of the Genetic Alliance, a charity lobbying for the rights of people with inherited illnesses.

"Clearly the House finally understood the incredible significance this has. The American public can now access genetic tests, feel safe about their genetic information not being misused and participate in research that involves genetic information."

Too bad, so sad, fans of genetic discrimination. Your time is passing.

Can we have a few arguments in favor of legalizing genetic discrimination to put in the museum? Thanks in advance!

Once again history proves you to be an ignorant piece of shit.

Genetic discrimination legislation history.

Fucking idiot.

The bills were introduced by Republicans in both houses with strong bi-partison co-sponsership. The vote in the Senate was 98-0. You already posted the house vote.

So little piece of shit, where was the Republican blockage? Instead of reading the source you cited, which tells you NOTHING. You might want to go to thomas.gov and actually read the history of the various bills. If you did you'd know that the house bill died in three sub-committees. And then you'd have to actually research the various powers of the members of those sub-committees to find out who put the holds on the bill and for what reason.

Until you do that and cite a credible source, like the minutes of the sub-committees meetings and the associated corespondence, then your statement is just more shit coming from the lips of a person known to be full of shit. Actually, a fucking laughing stock.

LOL @ Assmeal's idiocy.

Just like before, the bill is being blocked again by a Republican. Unlike before, it's being blocked in the Senate.

Keep dancing, Assmeal!

Tom Coburn. Now dance for me again!

You prove my point LT. Coburn is not ALL Republicans.

What's his beef? Well, from your own link;

Coburn threatened to block the bill, which he argues, "would not prohibit discrimination against embryos that have been found to be at risk for disease through genetic testing prior to implantation," and "would have 'all sorts of unintended consequences' for issues such as claims processing, medical records and information sharing with law enforcement."
(The emphasis is mine.)

If you read the text of the previous two senate bills that were passed without opposition you'll find NO such verbage in those bills for him to object to. As your link DOES NOT provide the text of the bill, we don't know what the Democrats put in there. Be that as it may, why do you think he may be objecting?

Let's see if your pea sized brain can think this through.

Let's see if the kleenexes inside Assmeal's skull can comprehend the words "stalling tactics"... :D

And there are other Republicans on the employee relations subcommittee who stalled this bill in the 108th and 109th Congress, so yeah, my comment about Republicans holding it up, still stands.

It's YOU who have hung yourself with this "ALL Republicans" straw man reasoning, Assmeal.

Changing the subject huh LT? I guess I hung your ass with Coburn.

Name the Republicans in the THREE subcommittees that stalled the bill in the house. And quote your source LT.

You're full of shit, still.

The subject hasn't changed, Assmeal. Not even one iota. And the only way you're hanging anything is if Coburn isn't a Republican. Otherwise it's your panties that are blowing in the wind coming out of your ears.

Three? How about one? Dumbass. The other three passed it onto here:

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d109:HR01227:@@@X

Latest Major Action: 4/18/2005 Referred to House subcommittee. Status: Referred to the Subcommittee on Employer-Employee Relations.

Where the buck stops, and all that.

And while you're spewing more hot air, go look up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Johnson

I was reading a article on NASA and their thoughts on a trip to Mars. Some were pushing for astronauts to be screened for genetic dispositions toward diseases or ailments because, unlike trips to the moon, a trip to Mars would mean no readily available hospitals if something happened.

They've got worse things to worry about than genetic dispositions on a trip to Mars.
