Deleting PC's

I got a comment that was a comment directed to me as an author. It wasn't horrible or anything, more of a protest about how slow a writer I am, and that the person said they refused to read the story.

I deleted it because the PC:
(a) was not related to the story
(b) was related to me

Has anyone else been deleting PC's and if so, why?

The only PC I have ever deleted was one that accused me of stealing a story. Actually just one small section of a story. It turned out that the other story was actually submitted several months after mine. Apparently I'm a time traveler or a mind reader in addition to being a plagerizer.

I'm envious of your time travelling skills. I would time travel to the future to when I actually finished a story, printed it, then took it back with me and submitted it. Yes, may create a wormhole and throw the universe out of wack, but shit happens. :D

On a more serious note (ha) someone wrote a PC saying my story sounded very familiar etc. I laughed and left it up. It was a fucking bodice-ripper pirate story - the pirate always gets the gal!!

I've deleted only one PC. It wasn't even directed at me but at someone who helped me with a story.

You can blast me all you want, troll. Stay away from my friends.

I've only deleted one, and it was from me explaining that I submitted an unfinished story by mistake and would correct the mistake as soon as I could. Once I resubmitted the story, it didn't make any sense to keep my comment up, so I deleted it.

I had a similar comment - a celebrities piece. Someone remembered the scene from an episode of the show on which the story was based.
I've seen every episode of that show, there hasn't been anything even close!!

All the time. If you write in certain categories (gay male for example), you can get rude troll messages that are just pointless and need to be chucked.

I've also erased longer, not-rude messages that I felt were getting the story into a pointless "flame war" over something that really didn't matter. Comments that "sour" the read rather than leading to thoughtful discussion are not worth keeping.

That's a good point - I probably should have done that with one of mine (Denial - most people just didn't get it). I think I deleted a nasty one early on. Then I decided the the trolls were amusing and haven't deleted any since.

I have deleted PCs that pointed out the errors in a story that I corrected with a substantial edit.

I left my own PC saying what I had done. The older PCs were no longer relevant to the new version, but the comments had been helpful - so I said thanks.

Og

I've yet to submit a story here (gotta a V.Editor working on my disaster; LOL Poor girl) but I think I'm gonna preserve any kind of pc, even if its a death threat.

Please, we fight for freedom of speech here, open expression and then you talk about 'souring' the read. That sounds like something from Rumsfeld or Stalin.

Nope.

If someone is willing to write something that says "HEY! I'M AN ASS!!!", I'm willing to give them the free advertising space.

Plus stupid PC's are another way God shows me that he loves me more... I've read some PC's (and emails) and thought "How pathetic is your life? No really... seriously... how fucking pathetic is your life?"

I haven't, and I don't know what someone could leave that would make me delete one. The worst I'd do is respond in my own comments and rip them a new one.

I've deleted several comments for being a combination of non-germane and non-intelligent. I'd probably have deleted that one too.

Starrkers - always gotta be one out there that says "that sounds familiar"! :D And fan fic too! Mission accomplished :D

3113 & Pen - can you give me an example?

Elf - I guess deleting PCs is against freedom of speech on the whole, regardless of the reason. This is partly what this thread is about, do other's do it, and why? For some, the reason why does not outweigh freedom of speech, and they leave it up.

Goat - doesn't count if it's your own ;)

Elsol - if the PC said "If you're reading this, you're an arse", (hey, I'm aussie) would you still leave it? I'm going to guess yes.

Rob - I did that recently too, because it embarrassed another author. But that is that author's story to tell.

Ogg - never thought about that situation. I don't know if I would add a PC, but maybe an author's note at the beginning of the story saying it was a re-edit, and thanks for all the helpful suggestions.
