Deleting Comments?

I hope this is the right place to post this.... Is there any way to delete comments that are just cruel? Like, I'm totally fine with comments that offer constructive criticism, but if someone just wants to be nasty for the sake of being nasty and offers nothing else can we delete those comments somehow?

Be careful what you wish for...

The problem with censorship is that it is subjective. Socialism encourages censorship and once the socialist ruling class trains society to accept the idea that some thoughts should be purged then they start purging. Anything that is critical of their actions is nasty. So while you might be talking about nasty comments about your stories or posts the principle is the same. Let people speak. If some say things that are nasty you can ignore it or call them out. But if you support censoring them then in time you too will be censored because someone will think your ideas are nasty.

Go to your author's page - the one where you can view all the activity on your stories. Click on "Works" on the left side. Look at the story with the comment in question. To the right there are three blue symbols. One symbol is for comments If you click on that, it will list all the comments. There's a trash can icon to the right of each comment. I haven't tried it, so I don't know if there are any steps beyond just clicking the trash can or if you have to give a reason. I don't know if it's instant or if it takes a while.

Deleting nasty comments

Far better to leave the stupid and nasty comments there to let readers see what sort of idiot made it. Post your own reply to show how stupid they are. Most of all, don't upset yourself over them. Literotica is a porn site, it attracts some rather unusual people who feel the need to demonstrate their intellectual inferiority by commenting on other people's work.

Unfortunately, sometimes the administrators have deleted the most idiotic ones, but left the replies, which can be a bit confusing.

Censorship is imposed by governments or those in authority and has nothing to do with an individual's desire to clear dog-shit off the front lawn or clean graffiti from their wall.

The site provides authors with the ability to control the spouting of garbage and abuse, and it's up to each author to establish their own rules. Some see it as a badge of honour to keep every comment, however imbecilic and foul, and good luck to them. Others clean shit off the lawn.

If a comment is intelligent and thoughtful, of course I'm going to keep it, regardless what is expressed, but I'm under no obligation to keep abuse or pettiness. Delete is your friend. Use it or don't use it, it's completely up to the author.

It's instant, and to answer Nyx, you don't have to justify yourself to anybody. It's just like taking out the garbage.
