... I'm sure you can do it. I just don't know how?
A while back I read a thread where a person was wanting to delete some of their stories. I can't find it though any of the searches I've done.
I only want to delete it so I can submit it's heavily edited makeover before I submit newer chapters.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Submit a new story entitled 'Delete.' In the Notes field, list the story you wish to have deleted.

It will take a few days. Be patient. Once the deletion goes through, neither the 'Delete' story nor the one you wished to be deleted will be there.

Thanks for your help ;)
Much appreciated

Another option is to wait until your heavily edited story is ready for posting. You can submit the edited story like you would a new story. In the title fields, put the title of the currently posted story followed by EDITED. In the notes field ask them to replace the current story with the edited version. If you do it this way, you keep the votes, comments, reads, and any awards the story might have won. I suppose it depends on whether you want to keep its current score and comments.

Have you actually done this? Because, as I understand it, if a story is replaced, you lose all votes and PCs.

No, but I've seen it reported by people who have. No idea if there's a point where the site considers it so different that they post it as a new story anyway.

I've submitted an "EDITED" version and had all votes, PCs and Views remain. But it was a fairly minor edit, not a rewrite.

Lmao... and I thought I was confused to start with.
Hmmm, it's been edited and a small amount of re-writing at the end.

Heh... the story itself has had just under 10 thousand reads, a score of 4.44 and no awards... it's not worth worrying about. I'll just delete it and submit again when it's gone.

Does anyone see a problem with that? You haven't had any problems with it slyc_willie?

The only thing I would suggest is a note to the readers saying it is an updated version of an earlier, now deleted story.
Otherwise you may have people accusing you of plagiarising something they remember reading before.

Right, will do...
thank you all for your help.

I've deleted stories that I thought were no longer related to my current style of writing (which means, despite whatever their reception, I thought they sucked). I've yet to replace an existing story or stories, although I am going to soon. The version which will replace the current posted stories will be quite different from the original.

I don't expect to keep any of the current votes or PCs when that happens.

As everyone has said, you have two options. If you want to delete the story/chapter outright, just submit it like you normally would, minus pasting/attaching the story.

In the title field: NAME OF STORY - DELETE

Where you'd normally paste/attach the story, put something like, Please delete this title

In the Notes field, although redundant I do it myself, put the same (Please delete this title)

It takes about the same amount of time for the story to be deleted as it does to be posted.

If you only want to submit edits to an existing chapter/story so you can keep all your votes/comments intact, here's what you'd do.

In the title field: NAME OF STORY - EDITED

Paste/attach the edited story/chapter.

In the notes field, put Please replace this story/chapter with the edited version.

That's about it.

As was also said, if you go the 'edited' route, you might want to include that the story has been edited. However, if it's been edited a lot, you may be better off deleting the old story and posting the new one.

Hope this helps.
