What kind of computer do you have? What sort of file? How was it deleted? A little more information can go a long way.

recover data on windows PCs...
First, make sure you don't "write" anything to the drive the deleted data/file is on. Then, get a program like Runtime Software's "GetDataBack for NTFS" (you can downlaod a trial version)and install and run it on the drive/hard disk you want to recover data from. If it is the system ["C drive" on windoze PCs] drive, don't download it to that drive. If you have just one drive and one partition and that is the system drive, you have a problem. Take a look at Runtime Software's website (http://www.runtime.org/) advice.
