How do I Delete a Story? I know how to edit and re-post one but how do I just delete one that serves me no longer?

Thanks!

Sethp!

Do the edit thing, but put delete instead.

In other words, after the title put - delete. I think that's right. Wouldn't hurt to put delete in the note section as well.

And lay off the coffee.

On this subject:

On the main site, there's a tab for "Help us improve"

My suggestion was to let us click on the "approved" link, bringing up all the information for the existing story in a submission form ( just as it looks right before you hit submit on a new one )

Upon making changes, the system could then automatically generate an "edited" submission, keeping the same process as currently exists from the Lit side.

This "edit" submission form could have a "Delete this story?" Radio button, making that a 3-click process. Click approved link. Click radio button. Click submit. It could even be a delete link added next to the "approved" link for fewer clicks ( with appropriate warning/confirmation screens, of course )

It could also have other buttons to streamline the process from the Lit site: Title Edit, Keyword Edit, Category Edit, Text Edit, making it easier for the person processing the story to know what you want changed. Saving the original Lit ID# of the story/chapter would also leave absolutely no question about what file you're editing.

All of the new information could parse directly into a text entry in the "notes" section, to avoid adding new entries to the database.

Hell of a lot easier ( and less confusing/mysterious ) for authors. Provides tools that make things easier for Lit, without making any real changes to the current processing method. Shouldn't be too much of a burden to code, either.

Put a word on the "Help us improve" tab. We could really use a streamlined edit process.

Thanks you're awesome! <shakes violently spilling java everywhere>

ok, so for those of us who don't have a clue how to edit and repost a story the steps would be???

Here's the process for an edit:

Make note of the story/chapter that you're editing. Go to the first page of the story, and copy the numbers at the end of the URL in the address bar of the browser. This is the Lit ID# of the story.

Start a new submission.

Use the same title ( or as much as will fit ) as the original sumbission. Then, append *EDIT* or something similar to the title.

Fill in the category, keywords, and description with placeholders. They're not important unless you're editing them as well.

Paste/Upload the new text, as usual.

In the "notes" section, explain exactly what you're editing. In this case, the text of the story. I always paste the Lit ID# of the story in the notes section, just to make sure there's no question about which one I'm editing. I also note that I want to maintain the title, description, keyword, votes, comments, etc. from the original submission, only changing the text.

( that's the standard procedure, but I spell things out just to make sure there are no mistakes )

If you are only changing the title, description, keywords, etc., then you can use pretty much the same procedure. Instead of pasting the story text ( which you aren't going to change ) paste a duplicate of the "Notes" section in the "story text" box.

Edits/deletes are subject to the same wait as stories to process, but I have seen them go through far more quickly. I had six edited chapters go through in two days, all at once, when stories were taking 5-7 days to approve. Simple edits ( such as a title change only ) seem to go through quickly if noted as such in the notes section. My guess is that is a "rest my eyes, but still be productive" thing for Laurel when approving stories.

Thank you so much. This has been posted before and I need it written in baby-step form as you did. For some reason I can never get my nerve up to change out the submission, or fix the titling. This weekend I'm gettin' it done. No more chicken. I'm sick of seeing my one chapter with the misspelled "Happpy"!

thanks dark! i'm sure that's posted somewhere else, but i'm too sleepy to look for it so i Super appreciate your accommodating my laziness/beauty sleep. :) you're the best!

It worked! Thanks everyone. The offending story has been deleted! Many of you will say that I should do that with all my stories! LOL. I have been rewriting and deleting some of the older ones that really sucked though!
