Death + Government = Scandal

My eyes have gone funny!

Don't you just love short paragraphs and good spacing!

Three thoughts:

A) What could they have realistically done to prevent the tragedy? Stopping one or two key players may have postponed it, but these men were quite replacable by others, I imagine. Anyone who is ready to die for their cause is also ready to die rather than share information about the cause. So, interrogation wouldn't have worked.

B) How do we sincerely know that the government failed to act? Are they required to report every step they take on every allegation in every investigation of this nature. I don't believe the facts are all present, at this time.

C) Is your name Redwave?

:D

Interesting paper, indeed. I am not sure I buy into it without doing some of my own research, though.

Telling me that someday, something really bad is going to happen just isn't neccessarily enough information for me to prevent the bad thing. (Even with a few of the finer details you pointed out.)

Well, I just flew for the first time since Sept. 11 and I don't see why the security measures they adopted after the attack couldn't have been put in place as soon as they had Hijack warnings.

It would have been simple and probably wouldn't have stopped much but it would have made the terrorists think of another way to stab people on the plane.

Yes, by and large, teh current security measures were long overdue.

And yes, my point exactly....would they really have stopped much? Probably not, OBL and followers simply would have configured a different way to get on the planes.

Well, I think the problem is that the governments response was, if not nothing than nothing substantial. It would have done something at least.

Sad but true.

Nothing stops a determined terrorist except a large quantity of lead!

Doing something for the sake of saying you did something and having that something be ineffective is not going to be the answer you seek.

We all wish there had been some magical answer on 9/11. I remember crying in my office wondering with each plane, when will it stop?

There is no Superman.

I am not yet convinced there was a whole lot we could have done based on what information we had.

No, obviously hindsight doesn't win wars but the fact of the matter is that these measures, which are pretty straightforward, would have thwarted these attacks. Why were boxcutters ever allowed in carry-on?

It's more conjecture that the terrorists would have been able to get around these new security measures. Maybe they wouldn't have been able to.

It is also conjecture that these measures or any other would have thwarted the attack.

If not box cutters, it could have been something else. Security measure on their own will simply make the terrorists work harder.

Any discussion at this point is conjecture.

What if the government had done x, y and z?

What if the airports had more stringent security measures?

What if the US had known specifically, date, time and target?

What if the US had shut down all airports and air space, had cleared the Twin Towers and put the country on red alert?

What if the US had the names and evidence of all the hijackers?

Another day, another plan for the really vehement of terrorists. Sadly, there is no stopping them.

If all the allegations of cover your ass behavior and inter-agency rivalry is true about the CIA and FBI, it leads me to this conclusion: they have both become as inefficient and incompetent as most other government agencies. They no longer deliver the services they were charged with. Their goal is to preserve their jobs while remaining unaccountable, and their mission is secondary.

Why should they be any different than the rest of the government?

Good job!

Good paper, greekrebel. Many people are just now realizing they were duped and manipulated by Bush and the ruling class into supporting the phony "war on terror" and the police state drive. The latter is now in high gear now, with Ashcroft removing all restraints on FBI spying on citizens, and Bush set to annouce a new Cabinet-level "Homeland Security" (read: Domestic Repression) agency.

The World Socialist Web Site (www.wsws.org) does rock. It's the best alternative news source on the web by far.

Correct. Alternate to the truth!
