Nature's way of cleaning up the gene-pool, or horrible tragedy?

I watched Jaws the other night- I haven't seen it since the seventies I think. Robert Shaw was awesome as Quint.

Funny thing though...as I watched it this time as an adult, I wondered why the fuck they just didn't murder the fucking thing with the M-1 Garand they had on board. Nobody is going to tell me that six or seven shots from a .30-06 wouldn't have sent even that fish to Davey Jones' locker. Instead, Roy Schieder waits until the last minute to shoot the dang compressed air cylinder in the shark's mouth.

Dopey.

Shooting into water is like shooting through ten mattresses.

In the book the poor shark just poops out from all the barrells and sinks to the bottom. Boring. No wonder Spileberg said "Blow him up. Blow him up real good!"

Yeah, but the damn shark swam by the boat a dozen times right on the surface.

On top of that they shot it with that speargun thingy three times to attach the barrels to it's back.

Something tells me they were trying to add more drama to the story with the whole barrel gag.

Just a hunch.

Like in SILENCE OF THE LAMBS?

When the kidnapper repeatedly has Jodie Foster in his night sight and he doesn't get around to shooting her. Which he would have done forthwith because she had nothing for him. If she were plump, he might have wished to save something for that garment he was making, but Jodie's a wee sort. It made no sense at all!

Let's trash lots of nonsensical movie plots, but try to stick to pretty good movies that spew all over themselves trying to wank us off at the climax.

Another movie that was disturbing was Contact. The movie was very well done. Almost like an informative real life story, until the end. Then they had to go and ruin everything with that stupid machine they created that was going to send her out to make contact. It completely screwed up the rest of the movie for me.

Yeah yeah...

The first 2 minutes were the best of it unfortunately because the start was so good but I enjoyed it anyway.

DAMN -

Sorry - I never bought that scene where the hood shoots the guy in the back seat. I recall thinking "He's a professional killer; why is he waving his weapon like that?" just before it went off.

Speaking of Jaws... When I lived on the Oregon coast, I saw a surfer get bitten by a great white. It was really rare that the shark was in those waters, but it was. The guy lived, but has about a million stitches. To this day I still hate swimming into the ocean if I can't feel the bottom with my feet. You know that part in jaws where the three guys are on the boat talking to one another after the shark has disabled thir boat? Well, there's a shooting star that flashes overhead, and that always gives me the shivers.

Jaws is a really powerful film, to this day I will not swim in the sea because as soon as the water gets above knee level I here that damn music.

I posted this story on another thread about a week or two ago but I'll repeat here for anybody who missed it last time.

A few years back some friends went abroard on holiday and along with all the other stuff they took with them was a HUGE radio, anyway one day they all went to the beach and after a little while one of my friends took out a tape and put it in the radio......he hit play and the water which had been full off people laughing and playing suddenly emptied by about two thirds.

And the song..........the theme from Jaws.

your chances of ever actually getting bitten are much lower than you would think .. statistically, anyway (whatever that really means). Even with all the hysteria going around right now, the shark attack count is lower this year than last.

I had a group of 4 barracuda float a few inches from my nose when I was diving in Cozumel once .. that made me quite nervous, but they just swamp around with all their big teeth looking mean then went away.

also, i got a little too close to a morray eel .. they can be nasty. but I have never seen a shark inthe water yet, so all this bravery might go bye bye really fast. :)

but hey, sharks are not evil! they aren't even mean. they just do what they do .. eat.

k, I'm going swimming.
kwt
