i just wanted a thread to toss things back and forth.

i want to pick your brain.

we need a date.

i don't need the booze.

i am also only considered wild by story, not by actual means. i am actually quite conservative in the way i run my daily life. there is wild, and there is laughter. most is enjoying the company of friends and self and the world i live in. or try to.

i want to go rubbage shopping with you and go to a festival or two.

:cattail:

i am due to get a sewing machine. i just have to pick it up. a drive. it is the one i learned how to sew on. pattern forming in my head and on paper.

the one's a singer. right now, the one i use on occasion is a commercial machine from the 90's. another a lot older. i am looking at the space i could put it, if i cleaned.

i've done larger pieces. about three or four now. some small garments. i would love to look at the structure of undergarments. patterns and lines of the form, taking into account stress, support, function, beauty and precision. i need the 10,000 hours when it comes to sewing. i am no where close. i've kept up with practice over the years, but not more than a few days worth of endeavor annually.

i also need to learn to properly tune a guitar.

When you find out how to properly tune your guitar, let me know. I just bought new strings for mine, and the plan is to maybe actually learn how to play something on it. I have an electronic tuner, and an app on my phone for tuning. It is called Getting, which I found amusing.

I did not find a phone app called Gspot, sadly. Someone needs to make one of those.

I have this very vintage couture pattern that I'm quite afraid of tackling something of that expertise. I'm horrible with zippers. I've had the fabric picked out for a year, I love it, and it would be such an accomplishment, but...sigh.

The more you do it, the faster you'll get. Invest in good scissors. A relative gave me one of those pizza cutter looking things, but I haven't tried yet. She swears by it.

Tuning a guitar is fairly simple, but there are a few things to keep in mind. First, know the pitches. Going from low to high: E, A D, G, B, E. Second it is possible to tune the guitar to itself if you do not have a pitch reference like a tuner or keyboard. Another thing to keep in mind is to always tune UP. The guitar will hold pitch better if coming from a lower pitch. So, it you should go above the pitch (sharp) it's best to to lower the pitch below the desired note and go back up to pitch. When changing strings, you should stretch the strings and re-tune. Do this one string at a time. Tune>stretch>re-tune until the string holds the pitch. It's not fully stretched until it holds pitch.

Now, how to tune without a tuner:
Uusing the low E string, hold the fifth fret and play it and the open A string. Tune the open string to match. Do the same on the A string to tune the D, and the D to tuen the G. On the G you will go to the FOURTH fret to tune the B string. Go back to the FIFTH fret to tune the high E. This will make the instrument playable and in tune with itself. There is also a method using harmonics "above" the 5th and 7th frets. The B string will still need to be tuned with the fourth fret on the g string.

Or, use a tuner and make the lights green. :D

We are going to go shopping? Maybe if we time it right, we can hit a few swaps too!
I think I am normal, but Byron initially thought he was the weirdest until he discovered I was weirder than he was. He thought that was cool ;)

Dreams are it! :rose:

I can help.

It's called a rotary cutter and you need a mat and a good blade. I can help there too.

Noor is the best.

Ah, you're just biased ;)

I mainly use rotary cutters. I only use shears when I can cutting a suit or coat out of serious wool, then I use 14 inch cutters.

I use tailors points for trimming. I have about 14 different kinds of things that most people would refer to as scissors.

I am a very technical sewer. If anyone needs help, I am willing to help.

Upcoming projects for myself are very warm mittens, some neck gators, suit jacket, trousers, bra-regular and sports, panties, some serious hats and maybe a couple of dresses in the spring.
I want a comfortable, mindless minimal wardrobe.

I got my wife a brother for her birthday. One of them machines that does something like 200 stitches (though most she probably wont use). I almost got a 1910 singer a few months back bur I had nowhere to put it. No idea what they're worth but it looked cool:cool:

Im not sure the model number but I know it was a treadle with a leather belt. I had the guy down to I think 100 bucks but with nowhere to put it I ended up turning I down. I've heard the market has fallen out on sewing machines short of a few models

Bump! It's almost spring, let's get sewing!
