1 – Dear me

by Angelina

Sad little thing
with your head in your hands
and your world blown apart
hair hanging low
(but not low as your heart).

The road stretches out
in miles of inches,
years set to please everyone
but you

must hold on
for what else can you do?

And just when you think
that the dreams you dreamed
long ago among rainy day lilacs
and honeysuckle

were all for naught
the same unfeeling world
will gift you
with the rarest love
of all.

2. Hey you arrogant jerk ......!

by Ashesh

hey you arrogant dude
sittin' on the floor
masturbatin' in the nude ....
i'll give you this though--
you never were a prude
you would explore all sexcapades
classy or simply rude .....
but your life will change
you're in for a great surprise
as you metamorph ....into
old , handicapped .....'n wise
you will discover the .....
Power of Yoga
& will effortlessly renounce
your insatiable nightly Bhoga
your seed , semen , bindu
which you thoughtlessly now release
you will learn to control orgasm
you will master Mool-Bandhic squeeze !!!
Your Tejas , Testosterone , Kundaline
will rapidly arise
up spinal channel to Sahasra Chakra , so help me
you will turn Wise ..........
...........amen.

3 -To Me at Twenty:

by Lyricalli

I can't tell you
all that you want to know,
and I'm not sure how much you'd believe,
even coming from me.

There is temptation
to shield you from pain,
from all the stumbles and falls
you'll take along the path you're on.

Still, that journey got us here,
which is further
and far more wonderful
than you've let yourself think possible.

Some mistakes you'll make
over and over again;
some lessons are difficult to learn,
and wisdom is hard won.

Love is waiting–
yes, even for you–
in the most unexpected places,
both heartbreaking and beautiful.
Worth everything you'll go through.

We've lost more
than you think we'll ever have,
yet still have so much.
Someday you'll know, you'll see,
how it feels
to be overcome by love.

It's hard to trust, I know,
you barely trust yourself.
But, we've come a long way,
and I carry you with me.
Sometimes still see
me through your eyes.

By the way,
you learned to cry again.
Though I imagine
you don't think that's a good thing–
it is.

So, no, I can't tell you
what's ahead,
or help you to find your way.
I just want you to know
the view is good from here.

You and me?
We did okay, kid.

4. Dear Junior

by Greenmountaineer

I can call you that, now that I'm older,
so I ask you what made me buy
"Volleyball at Nudist Camps"
at Ocean City Wine, Beer, and Sundries

that summer in 1967
when salt water taffy would have tasted
better in our flea bag motel room
as we flipped through pages, waiting for Stuey

who knew how to groove under the boardwalk
with Sgt. Pepper lonely heart girls
at Glassboro State or Villanova
and make them say "Oh, Stuey!"

moaning until they went back to school
in September to study Thucydides
while you and I were starving to death for
taffy, vaginas, and stories from Stuey.

5 – Sestina to Self

by GuiltyPleasure

I’d just like to let you know
your shyness will not last,
your skill and confidence will grow
as your sister’s will get weak.
Good health won’t be on your side
but much happiness will follow you.

If you had fulfilled all you
planned and learnt all I know
now it would have been easy to decide
what to do with your life. The last
job councillor’s advice was weak
and only saw your anxiety grow.

You shall find your talent will grow
and your parents become proud of you
even if, right now, they think it weak.
Oh, all the things you need to know
but will learn too late for last-
ing good but I was always on your side.

Happily your marriage will not be side-
lined as your siblings’ but get strong, grow
into a deeper love that will last
through all the unexpected troubles you
will have to face together. So know
your bond is more strong than weak.

As time passes, day by day, week
by week you get strong, on your side
is time and healthy relationships that know
your potential and will watch as you grow,
share challenges and adversities with you
so you triumph and come out on top at last.

So now my final words, advice at last,
seek help as you get physically weak
and widen your vision of medicine, you
will find alternate treatment outside
the norm that many scoff at, grow
sceptical but it works, now I know.

Lastly, take comfort in your many sided
life. Muscle weakness will grow into other strengths
that you don’t yet know you are capable of.

6 - Jurassic Farce

by Magnetron

I really have nothing to say to you

but that is not to say
you shouldn't be listening
so pay attention

especially to your dreams;
those poems penned by the Higher Self
when this prehistoric Lower Life Form
fictional character you currently play
sleeps the night away after day
long doubt and angst filled struggles
to write great American novels that
aside from a third word processor crash
literally end up going nowhere*

*with the exception of the trash

for more can be said
in a mere few words
than entire library shelves
or cave illustrations can convey
if you would just stop panicking
long enough to stand your ground
and use your words to subdue the beast
rather than run away from the Saurus Rex
hunting you through recurring nightmare.

7 - Poem to a younger me

by UnderYourSpell

Never believe in life's suppression
or take to heart the words of fools,
remember always each hard lesson
they will help you learn the rules.

False love will burn the strongest
and just as quickly fade and die,
participate to be the worthiest
gain the tools with which to try.

Reach high for the stars my girl,
then the world will come to you
suppressors turn away and shun
always to your heart be true.

Cut-off date for votes is May 25th. As usual for these challenges a varied and interesting collection of poems. It's going to be difficult to pick just one.

Tomorrow is the Big Reveal and the start of the comments so, if you haven't voted and intend to, now is the time.

after seriously considering 3 i preferred to the rest, i'm voting for the one that struck me initially as my favourite. it was close, though, and 1 of the trio might actually be the better poem with regard to content but i still like the other better. speaking it aloud, the sounds and pacing touch me more.

well done, y'all!

i think more than two are pretty clear. Still... when does (open) guessing commence? I assume we've all been guessing already.

Why is it that the menfolk are so obvious?

There has to be a reason for why they stickout like a sorethumb.

Sinseria narrowly missed the deadline and I couldn't include her poem for the voting but I'd like to include it here for your enjoyment and comments.

Only You Can Fly

by Sinseria

If I could go back in time
Tell my younger self a tale
Advice to make it through this hell
Oh the tale I could tell

Weave the stories of our life
Simple and true about a jaded bird
A craven little creature that never flew
And the adventures of a fool

But in the end
The only advice I could give
Begins within

For life is short
And the world is cruel
Hateful in its self riotous pride
And un-relentless at its best
Without mercy and without end

You will taste the steel
From every dagger of life
From one hand to the next
By friend and foe, alike

Your heart will bleed
A thousand bloody tears
To the whispers of love
As you lay down your soul
Time and time again
For a wishful lie believed

And you, you alone
Will caress your destiny
On the edge of a broken blade
You will feed it your flesh and vain
To ease your timid ways
But that won’t end the pain

If you can’t face the truth
Don’t hide behind the lie
Never let your dreams die
For only you can fly
