A deaf and partially blind woman flying to a cancer treatment center for her brain tumor, had her head violently slammed to the ground by the transportation security agency (TSA) after misunderstanding orders about the screening process because of her disabilities.

If she was being detained by airport police, did they really have to throw her to the ground and slam her skull against the hard floor? She looks like a small and defenseless woman who could be easily restrained simply by putting her in handcuffs.

I read about this. She does look small, she apparently got frightened and fled from the TSA people. They wouldn't let her mother go to her and calm her down. It did seem like overkill looking at the pictures of her.

I heard about a guy that got shot nine times at an airport recently 'because he had a rock in his hand' when security approached him and his wife while they were arguing.

The TSA agent who threw the girl down should have been arrested for use of excessive force. I wonder if TSA even took her to medical to get her treated for the wounds and scrapes she got from the over zealous treatment.

As a past airport screener we never threw anyone down or manhandled anyone. We left that to airport police. I've had plenty of passengers taken into custody for trying to bring firearms through security. I also called airport police on persons I thought were carrying drugs. I've told passengers if they tried one more time to take little Johnny's toy gun on board they would be explaining things to airport security.

TSA are want to be cops and they're bullies in uniforms. One of the guys on a dart team we played was one and he shot his mouth all night long until someone punched him out, one shot and done.

Probably strip searched five old ladies and slapped a couple people the next day for it.

Had it been a terrorist plot those guys would be heroes.

That said, I think it is time for law enforcement to lose the mentality that everyone is death threat and need to be treated in a military fashion. Yes the threat can happen but overall are most encounters life threatening?

On the other hand, as a people/media/congress we need to stop questioning why didn't law enforcement prevent abc/xwz attack.

We can't have it both ways.

Police training has become very aggressive and militaristic in nature, it focuses on combat/violence more than anything else.

This results in some cops having an aggressive soldier-like mentality who look and behave like an occupying army.

Read here about police militarization.
