Programmers at MIT have been working on a broadly applicable linguistics program as a stepping stone to creating a whole new generation of translating software. They've adapted object-oriented theory in such a way that both words and pictograms (and/or hieroglyphics) are treated the same way.

In an example today posted on the MIT web site, they have revealed a new interpretation of a passage from the Dead Sea Scrolls describing the Genesis, made possible by this new object-oriented algorithm. Sure to cause a ripple among the fundamental creationists, it said in part:

"Of course the real work was done by a team of God's grad student flunkies, working under enormous pressure to get the job done in three days because God had waited until Wednesday to tell them it was due on Saturday."

"And on the seventh day they rested for 10 years and got mightily pissed and floated with the angels."
