It’s too early to know what tax hikes can get passed by Congress. Some increase in the corporate rate might be possible. The elimination of the capital gains step up is almost certainly a non starter.

I have no issue with the tax increases they are proposing. In essence any real tax burden experiences by lower and middle income earners would only be felt on disposable income purchases.

If you just put that money into your 401k and make living expense purchases, I don't think you'd even see a difference outside of typical ebb and flow of the economy.

Someone has to pay for the cost of the Covid pandemic. In the UK we also have a historical high tax bill coming (but still less than most European countries).

The last time our taxes were so high were just after WW2.

Grocery prices headed higher: Kroger

Beef prices have risen 14% this year while pork prices have jumped 12.1%, and poultry prices are up 6.6%.

Kroger is "passing along higher cost to the customer where it makes sense to do so," said CFO Gary Millerchip on the company’s second-quarter earnings call on Friday.

Management at Kroger rival Albertsons Companies Inc. earlier this summer expressed similar concerns that inflation would pick up in the second half of the year and that they too would pass some of those increased costs along to consumers.
