Days After Santa Fe’s Dem Mayor Bans City Employees Frm Travelling To Anti-LGBT States,

 Mayor Travels To Islamic Qatar….

Santa Fe Mayor Javier Gonzales will travel this week to Qatar, and the trip is drawing criticism that the mayor is breaking his own directives.

Qatar is known for its anti-LGBT laws, and Gonzales’ trip was announced just days after the mayor reaffirmed Santa Fe’s ban on city employee travel to states that have passed what advocates say are discrimination laws against the LGBT community.

The openly-gay mayor was selected to go to Qatar by the US Conference of Mayors, the Santa Fe New Mexican reports. Qatar will pay for the trip.

According to a city statement, the mayor decided to take the trip “after receiving assurances from the US Conference of Mayors that he will have the opportunity to raise human rights issues in the meetings.”

Interesting topic.

Quote from the other article :

" A U.S. State Department report says LGBT people in Qatar face discrimination “under the law and in practice.
A city statement said the mayor, “after careful consideration, and acknowledging that there are strong reasons both against and in favor of the trip to Qatar,” decided to make the journey “after receiving assurances from the U.S. Conference of Mayors that he will have the opportunity to raise human rights issues in the meetings.”

Well, I get the double-standard argument, but there is a subtle difference. In the one case it's a openly religiously governed nation -they publicly espouse their practices. In the other, it's a US state. Questions of violation the US constitution and hiding hate behind lose definitions and euphemistic phrases like "religious freedom" abound.

Frankly, I don't mind discriminatory speech and actions - as long as people stand behind their hate so everyone can see them for who they really are. But then again, I dislike the frenzy people can work up and become dangerous with hate speech. It's not a simple subject.

yes, good point

where do you see HATE?

is it hate to keep a MAN who THINKS he is a WOMAN out of a WOMANS bathroom?

Gonzales's antics and utterances are like watching Jerry Springer. The rest of the State gets to feel, "see, we're not so bad after all."

So the clown gets to address "human rights" in Qatar. Bet ya that's going to be covered by every major wire service. Look for his speech to be on the front page of the NY Times and Wash. Post. It will be on the front page of the Santa Fe New Mexican, but only the HUGE gay community up there will read whatever tripe he utters.

I'm guessing by the quotes you don't believe it's a human right.

They won't.

They will sit there and think, who am I to impose my values on them?

just remember

a decade or so ago

under a sane time

a MAN who went to a womans bathroom was a pervert and was arrrested

The solution is simple.

Close down all public restrooms, block them off with crime scene tape and line the outsides of our buildings with port-a-potties...

Send more liberal homosexuals to Qatar; that will change the culture and the choice of drapes.

WTF does Obama have to do with it? Or is that supposed to be the Rodeo Clown Obama you stand up when you don't know whom to blame?

Since this is the first use of the word Obama in this thread...,

why don't you explain your ad hominem in more detail.

Hizzoner apparently doesn't have a problem with Qatar's abuse and enslavement of tens of thousands of migrant workers who have one toilet for 50 people.

Liberalism and hypocrisy go together like peanut butter and jelly.
