Daylight Savings Time: For or Against?

  • We should never be on DST. It’s a scam and does more damage than good.

I saw there's a book out on the subject. Yep, a whole book indicating the history of it, and whether it really does us good--or is a complete waste.

As for me, I hate it. Hate it. Hate it. For some reason I never get used to it and never feel like I'm back on the right clock till we're off it. AND the worst thing is that just about this time of year, I start getting up earlier naturally, like my body knows spring is on the way and there's more daylight so I start rising from my bed earlier. And it's wonderful! I have more hours in the day.

Then DST shows up and suddenly I'm back to waking up at that later time. My extra morning hour is lost. Phooey! I say we do away with this scam!

What's your opinion?

Oh, and do remember to "spring forward" those clocks by an hour!

I'm not going to vote until I hear what the book has to say about it. I vote for going off it--just don't know in what direction.

Now that we have electric lights...who cares if we have an extra hour of daylight or not...when DST came to pass in WW2...half the country wasn't electrified so it saved on kerosene...and gave factory workers another hour of daylight. It's 2009...Hello!

I was tempted to buy the book--and didn't. But from scanning the first few pages I got the feeling that the author feels more money is lost than gained by it.

we don't change here until the 29th..odd huh...ah well couple weeks of confusion for me to keep up with who not to call at that times.

I love Daylight Saving Time (note: not Daylight SavingSSSS Time; there is no S at the end of Saving). Sure, it doesn't really save or generate any daylight, but it DOES move more of it to the time when I am NOT at work and can enjoy it! Who cares if it is daylight when I'm commuting or working; I want daylight when I go out to play AFTER the working day!

When I'm king, we'll have DST all year long.......Carney

Dark at 5pm in the winter is the debil. Fuck fucking that!

Personally what I cant stand is the whole changing twice a year. Either go off it for good or make it year round but do one or the other. I lived in AZ for 20 yrs and it was so nice not to have to worry about changing.,..the only thing was remembering what time everyone else was on

I just wish someone had told me two hours earlier last night so that I could have gone to bed earlier, and woken up on time this morning. I'm not running late yet, but it's close, and I have a kung fu class to leave for in about ten minutes.

In World War 2 the government collected scrap metal from civilians to make them feel connected to the war effort. The government said it needed the metals, but it didnt. The whole thing was public relations manipulation.

Now! I suspect Daylight Saving Time is a military idea, for 3 reasons. ONE: Workers fuck-off in the morning NOT in the afternoon. DST doesnt waste valuable daylight. TWO: Military commanders generally attack at dawn. Adjusting the clock means the soldiers are better adapted for arising earlier, and ready to go when the sun comes up. THREE: DST reduces background illumination that helps enemy submariners spot ships close to cities.

Today I suspect DST is used to manipulate people to shop longer and later in the evenings.

I like the Chinese alternative. They have one time zone for the whole country and adjust their lives to fit the clock rather than the clock to fit their lives.:)

I hate it. When is it this year for the US? I'm so confused with how they changed it just recently and can't remember when it happens anymore.

Never mind a stupid question. My computer clock just told me that I screwed this up too. *sigh*

I'm okay getting rid of it. I'll adjust.

As far as the Chinese go...how did they get the sun to rise at the same time over the whole country?

My favorite time of day is sitting on the front porch with my flagon of coffee watching the sun come up. Let's go year 'round. It's too cold to sit on the porch in winter anyway.

I vote for changing it 30 minutes and leaving it alone, forever.

I love DST. Love love love the bastard.

It means i finish work and still have time to hit the beach, have a game of tennis or a bbq. Here in australia we only have it during the summer tho.

Humans were not designed to get up in the dark.

Traveling home in the dark at the end of the day is one thing. Arising in the dark is something else entirely; I believe that issue is addressed somewhere in the Geneva Conventions— and, if not, it should be.
