Day Without a Gay

Oops, I meant to put this in the GLBT forums.

But you can still answer! I'm interested in how many people are participating.

I did. But then again, it wasn't fair. I was staying home anyway. After we learned about the Day with a Gay thing, we knew we'd just stay home. I don't know if it does anymore good than boycotting the gas stations or not, but hopefully it at least gets people talking.

I'm not in a position to do this (I'm in between regular employment and work as an independant contractor), but I am fully behind the idea.

It does wake people up though, when you realize how many States could fire you for missing work for calling in "gay" today, whether you are or not.

Good protest. It carries some risks for those involved, but the message needs to get out.

As I mentioned over in GLBT Chatter, I can't afford to take a day off, so I went to work yesterday.

But unless this becomes an annual event with WAY more publicity (ie, not just web buzz), it's not going to make an impact. I'm sure most people have no idea that it was done before as Pink Flu Day in 2004. It would be nice to achieve the fame of National Coming Out Day or the Day of Silence, but it's not going to happen unless there's a much more broad campaign. Or unless the AP picks up the story. :)
