how do you make it feasible (sp?) for a daughter and father to have sex on the day/night of her marriage to childhood sweetheart? who do you reckon would make the best instigator? have idea that this is the first time anything has happened between them, but how do you lead into the fact they've wanted each other for years. have idea that girl's brother is also involved in some way...

if I can't figure something out...I won't bother :)

Sounds juicy!

First off, is the brother involved, or not? No pussyfooting around here. In, or out?

Now, as for your main problem, you might want to consider making their relationship as close to being husband and wife as possible, but minus the sex.

Mom and Dad married early, let's say at 18, right out of highschool. Life was hard, but Dad was harder. He made something of himself because his family needed cash. First child (Daughter) born two years later to 20-21 year old parents. Mother dies of childbirth complications with child #2, the Son, a year later. Make Father 22-23 years old. By this time he can afford a nanny to raise the kids while he works, but he regrets not being there with them a lot. He works 12-18 hours a day.

Every Sunday is Family Day, where Father absolutely refuses to do anything w/o his kids. He has always honoured this self-imposed promise.

Due to work schedule he hasn't dated/remarried. He is lonely.

Daughter quickly learns to cook, clean, sew, etc; all of the things her nanny says young ladies should know. She hates that shit, but loves the fact that she can help her Daddy out. He is too tired to worry about trifles in the home. She does that stuff for him. By age 10, she is the homemaker. The nanny still works there, but only in a supervisory role.

Daughter blossoms into beautiful young woman. Looks the same as her Mother. Father notices and is attracted, but loves his little girl and would never harm her. Instead, he brusquely forces her away. Daughter hurt, confused.

By age 19 she is ready to get married not out of love, but out of desperation. Life at home stinks. Father is mean, treats her like crap. She doesn't know why. He still insists on Family Day on Sundays, though both of the kids would rather be somewhere else. He has lived solely for his children, and is loathe to give them up.

Just before the wedding, Father opts out and convinces brother to give the Daughter away. He won't be there. Brother goes to Sister and tells her of Father's decision. Daughter decides that enough is enough, and goes to confront Daddy.

Daughter finds Daddy getting liquored up in a vacant room, twirling his wedding ring. She confronts him. He is speechless, turns white as a sheet. She is his dead wife, come again. He confesses his deep feelings for his little girl, and his feelings of abandonment, pending separation, etc. While she is around it is as if her mother never died. Cold treatment explained; he was afraid to abuse her sexually as a child. He would have, if things had continued the way they were.

Daughter now an adult, who can make adult decisions. She was happiest as a child growing up, before Daddy turned away from her. She felt loved, and needed. She always had a fantasy about marrying her Daddy, the only man in the world who is right for her. After all, he's hardworking, honest and handsome. He's also only 40. He resists, but she is persistent. He gives his daughter her mother's wedding and engagement rings, the ones he keeps on a chain around his neck. They fit perfectly.

You do the rest ...

BTW, all of that is backstory that probably won't end up in your tale. It is vital that the character's behave in concordance with their pasts, however. Everything sexual should take place when the Daughter is 19 and the Son 18, as per Lit guidelines.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get Brother into the action in a realistic way? I pretty much ignored him entirely except as being the Father's proxy at the wedding.

Just a bump, in case Young Girl is looking for the thread.

I think that the brother can be the peace maker between the daughter and the father. He can console the daughter as her father pushes her away. She is in need of love and affection, and her brother is there for her, but she really need is her father. The brother is strong like his father and acts as a protector while their father works. The bond between brother and sister builds do to the long hours that the father works.

NICE!

Thanks for the help. Do you think the rest of the proposed outline is solid? I'll rewrite it to incorporate the new elements wrt the Brother.

wedding idea

no brother involvement.
why not have the daughter find out that her husband to be had been unfaithful at his bachelor party. having been highschool sweethearts they had been waiting till they were married to have sex. she confides in her father and tells him she doesn't want to go into the marrage a virgin. so he helps her feel better in many ways.

Interesting, but it goes directly against the estranged Father/Daughter aspect I was aiming for. Can't have a reconciliation scene without a falling out first.
