was married for 17 years, grew apart, yadda yadda.

how does one jump back into the casual dating pool?

I don't know how popular it is in Canada, but I just got my recently widowed friend registered yesterday onto plentyoffish.com aka pof.com and he's already got a date for Tuesday.

There are a lot of prompts for you to "upgrade" your profile and spend $, but technically the site is free and my friend is already emailing with a handful of ladies.

I know there are dating sites that advertise, such as "eharmony" but I believe their aim is far more along the lines of finding yourself marriage material, not casual dating.

There is also the Literotica personals discussion board and I believe "meetup.com" is more about meeting to attend events with like-minded people, not necessarily dating per se, which might be a great way to just generally socialize some before even attempting more serious one-on-one dating.

Best of luck to you!

You start by putting yourself out there, in every way. Let yourself get disappointed, hurt, angered, fucked, fucked over....and eventually you'll find yourself in that casual dating pool. Hopefully you will find a nice swim partner.

I signed up to Plenty Of Fish to post in the forums but I have chatted with some interesting people on there. I've heard good and bad stories about meeting people on the site. I haven't met anyone as I am not looking to date anyone and I really just go there for the forums, but I think its a good place to try. And you won't have to spend any money so if you don't like it, you can just leave.

I think its worth a shot. And remember, there's always someone in the same situation as you who are genuinely looking for a nice, cool, sane person to hangout with. And a lot go to sites like POF because they are also too busy or tired of the BS of meeting people.

I feel for you. I have said for years, I think the only thing worse than marriage is dating.

I was on lavalife years ago, before I was married. It was a lot of fun. It can be $$ if you aren't careful, but I met a few wonderful 'friends' there. There is also adultfriendfinder, but I can't offer much on it, as I never delved deep enough into it. It seems like a 1000 to 1 ratio of men to women. Well. They all do.

Good luck.

had a "date", had started as just watching movies at my house, feeling much more relaxed and like a huge weight has been lifted. thank you all for the ideas

Not sure what you're looking for but if POF is up your alley, you might also try OK Cupid. It's also free.

I've had more luck there than on other dating sites.
