Darkseekers (IC)

All day long, there is mayhem on the streets:
  • Creatures attacking people.
  • People running for their lives.
  • Other people looting, even amongst the cannibalistic attacks.
  • Police and National Guard discharging their weapons, seemingly at both cannibals and looters.
Late in the afternoon, things begin to calm:
  • There are bloodied, mangled dead bodies scattered about the streets.
  • There are still people running about, though they are fewer in number and seemingly more intent on getting to a destination rather than just away from the mayhem.
  • There is continuing but less intense looting.
  • There do not seem to be any of the cannibals in sight.
More personally:
  • Taylor has maintained nearly constant communication with Carla. She is still panicking and desperately wants to be with Taylor, either here or there.
  • You, Sarah, and Taylor have been able to communicate with relatives and close friends, about 30 people in all, half of whom are here in the City. They all face the same mayhem, whether here or elsewhere.
  • None of the above are near enough to contemplate joining up at this time. As the day goes on, you begin losing communication with many of them.
  • Some of the above have “resources” you could use: weapons, more food and water, more secure housing. Is it worth the risk to try? Unlikely, but that’s up to you.
As sunset nears, Taylor says he wants to go get Sarah. He is becoming more insistent as dark approaches.

What do you do?

Henry’s POV:

Day 1, sunset:

I beg Taylor and Carla to wait until tomorrow, until we can see what the light of day brings us.

If that doesn’t work, I tell him we need weapons.

???
-- Do I know anyone in our building with a gun(s)?
-- Do these people know and like me enough to help us?

If there are and if they do, I tell Taylor we can go to their apartment and try to get help from them.

If there are but they don’t, I tell Taylor we can go to their apartment and, if they aren’t home, break in and look for their gun.

Other than that, I am NOT leaving the building unarmed.

??? -- Can I have some military or police force training? My background wasn’t discussed.

Note: Below, I deducted food only, 3 people x 3 meals.

Current Statistics: (sundown , day 1)
  • Food = 21 servings
  • Current ration allotment = 100%
  • Bottled Water = 12 servings
  • Current rations: N/A (City water still available)
  • Shelter: 70/100 (space = 10; security = 5; electricity = 10; other power (batteries, gas, etc) = 5; water = 10; sewer = 10; misc = 20/40)
  • Luxuries: 90% (comfort, electronic entertainment, other things)
  • Confidence/Security = 30/100
  • Loyalty= (100 + N/A + 70 + 90 + 30)/4 = 72.5 %.

Game Master’s Reply:

Day 1, sundown:

Taylor and Carla don’t want to wait until tomorrow.

However, as the city streets fall into darkening shadow, the cannibals return. They flood the streets, and within an hour or so, there are few living people down beyond your apartment’s window.

Additionally, the hallway outside your apartment erupts in screams and growls and general mayhem.

??? -- Do I know anyone in our building with a gun(s)?
Yes.
-- Do these people know and like me enough to help us?
Yes and no.

Your friend Bobby, on the 2nd floor, took you shooting once. He has an AR-15 and a 9mm semi automatic. He would most definitely help you.

A guy you know on the 1st floor, Kenny, has a .45 caliber revolver. He doesn’t much care for you, though.

BTW, you haven’t heard ANY gunfire INSIDE your building. That could mean a lot of things.

??? -- Can I have some military or police force training? My background wasn’t discussed.
Using an online die roller, you got a d6=4. I’m gonna call that: Army, infantry, arms training, overseas tour; you were in direct combat, getting shot at and shooting at others; although you don’t know whether you actually killed anyone, you have dealt with the dead afterward. How’s that?

Note: Below, I deducted some things. Compare to the previous post if you want.

Current Statistics: (sundown , day 1)
  • Food = 21 servings
  • Current ration allotment = 100%
  • Bottled Water = 12 servings
  • Current rations: N/A (City water still available)
  • Shelter: 55/100 (space = 10; security = 0; electricity = 10; other power (batteries, gas, etc) = 5; water = 10; sewer = 10; misc = 15/40)
  • Luxuries: 80% (comfort, electronic entertainment, other things)
  • Confidence/Security = 10/100
  • Loyalty= (100 + N/A + 55 + 80 + 15)/4 = 62.2% (down from 72.5 %).

The mayhem in the hall has Sarah wanting to stick close to you, whatever you choose to do. That mayhem has Taylor conflicted: he doesn’t want to go out there but he also doesn’t want to stay here. But for now, he will do as Henry says.

If you stay inside, you will probably be safe.

If you go outside, well, who knows?
