Dark thoughts for the dark room

Not to be a Debbie Downer but has anyone els on this forum ever killed another human being? accidental or intentional? How has it effected your life? with the wonderful anonymity of the internet I would really like to know...

Im sitting here with a....rediculously huge blunt, some Jack Daniels, some Seroquel, my favorite jams and I realize I have since all but pushed off any real human contact for booz, pot, a 3.8 GPA and the occasional meaningless (and somtimes worthless) lay, and the frequent literotica read...and oddly enough im pretty content.

I came close, in a fit of anger, but managed to hold back just enough. The sight of her blood splattering on the window pane stopped the world. I wandered off in a daze, realizing I had just done something I had promised myself I would never do. I came close to suicide that day, to atone for the act, but decided that it would be more painful to live with my conscious. She has long since forgiven me, but I never forgave myself.

I think trying to forgive yourself is the hardest thing anyone with a conciencence, soul or whatever you want to call it can do.
In 2003 when I was a young private and the Iraq war was fresh and everyone belived in what they were doing, it wasnt hard to justify or cope with offing a guy who was trying to gun you down. Never botherd me. However, after I got back I was moved to a new unit, and ended up with HHC scout team, went to Sniper school then deployed again in late 05' it all changed. Now I was observing people long before I would take pre-emptive shots on them it was a whole new level in the morality/concience ball game. Its de-humanizing, but it will make you an excellent work o' holic, and insomniac lol.

I have never taken a human life. I've been in the CG for 15 years and had the honor of helping save 2 lives at sea.

However my darkest day was the one when we responded to a capsized ferry . When we got there all we could do was pull the bodies from the water and stack them. Over 150 bodies from the water that day. IF we gotten there 30 minutes earlier maybe we could have saved a few.

Nope, I definitely haven't ever killed anyone, but I have had many people die in my care. Some gory, bloody deaths from traumatic injury, some peaceful from a long term illness, others completely unexpectedly. It sucks.

RN/PA/MD? Im in Nursing school atm...figured it would be good to help save lives instead of take them, not only that but I work pretty well under pressure...ER all the way for me =D

Nursing Student, also. I was an EMT for 12 years, too. I love the adrenaline and pressure of urgent situations. It definitely suits my personality. The blood and guts don't bother me - it's the getting attached to people part that I have a hard time with.

No, but one day the breaks on my car failed and I ended up hitting two other cars and a building and nearly killed three people (including a child). Crashing into the building is what saved my life because my car was just about to shoot across the road into the path of the oncoming traffic on a busy highway. This happened about eight years ago but I still think about that day and reflect on how fragile life really is. It's always a very sobering thought for me.
