Anna ran down the stairs, focused on one thing and one thing only and that was to get behind the wheel. The shooters had sped off, at least that's what she surmised from the schreech of wheels she'd heard and the eerie silence that followed. All she heard now was Eric and Loc, shouting orders.
Why she didn't panic and freak out completely on everyone was something she would analyze later. Now, she just threw open the front door, ran the few steps to the black SUV in the driveway, climbed in and put both hands on the wheel and breathed a few times staring straight ahead. Then she saw the keys were there, and checked for the pedals with her feet. For a brief second she felt what had happened to her in the house, her crotch all sticky and sore. Anna breathed again.
And then Eric was there, throwing open the back door, and shoving in what she had thought was the dead body of their friend but that she now realized was the seriously wounded, bleeding all over the place body of their friend.
Anna saw the blood and felt her heart was about to jump out of her chest but she could get herself under control and obey Eric's order to wait. He disappeared and now Loc was there, shouting at her to start the car. And now she heard the sirens, distant but.. still... sirens. Fucking sirens! "Oh god oh god oh god..." Anna put the big SUV in reverse, drove too fast out of the driveway, and stopped out on the street.
"Oh my god please oh my god please" she repeated to herself over and over in a low whisper, her eyes closed. Suddenly, the passenger door was pulled open and a wild-eyed Eric jumped in shouting at her to drive.
With a start that made all the passengers jump forward - Eric giving her a look as if to say did she even know how to drive - they were off down the road. Soon enough Anna had control and moved the big vehicle (to which she was unaccustomed) at a pace which would have impressed the most hardened and experienced get-away driver: Fast but safe, not drawing too much uneccessary attention to them.
