Raven sighed and she walked hom in the rainstorm. She was what most would call a goth. She had pale skin and wore dark clothes, read poetry and seem perpetutally depressed.

The truth of the matter was Raven was a halfbreed. Half human and Half Vampire. Her mother had spirited her away from her father once she found out Vlad's true nature.

That had been 18 years ago.

Her mother had tried to raise her child as a normal human girl but lately it seemd Raven was begining to figure out how different she was.

Though as far as she knew her father had died before her birth. In truth she was no ordinary girl she was Raven Dracul.

Moving through the throng of people on the sidewalk was easy for someone like him, it seemd as if the crowd parted for him to walk and closed up after he had passed. Not that he was in any way particularly imposing as most wouldn't give him a second glance, merely another business man on his way somewhere, somehow his presence was enough to secure him a route.

As he passed Raven something intruded upon his conciouness causing him to pause and look closer at the girl. He couldn't quite place his finger on it at the moment so he decided to nudge fate a bit.

Turning and following after her he moved a bit more quickly, intent on catching her. He brushed past the crowd, intercepting and jostling Raven with his shoulder. His feet tangling with hers and causing them both to fall to the sidewalk.

When Someone bumped into Raven and sent her fallign she cursed loudly. "Goddamit!" Whoever it was had to be a guy cuz he was crushing her. "Could you get off me?!" She asked as she swept the curtain that was her black hair out of her face and glared at the man with cold eyes.

Thinking to himself, 'It's a bit late for that...' He disentangled himself from the woman, catching her eyes with his for a brief moment.

"I'm really very sorry." Offering her a hand backup to her feet. "I must have been off in space somewhere."

His thoughts gently probing at the edges of her mind, not wanting to alert her if she had any knowledge of what he was doing.

"Yes well your space collided with mine... oh no!!!" Raven cried as she looked down and noticed her bag had come open. Her skecthes were laying in the muddy water ruined. "My sketches!!" She picked them up and looked as if she was going to cry.

"Great just great ."she wadded the paper up and tossed them. "Not only do i get knocked over but now my art assignment is ruined." She hadn't noticed she was soaking went and covered in bits of mud.

"Whatelse could go wrong?" To answer her the giant clock in th emiddle of town began to chime that it was five o'clock. "Shit! Mom is goona kill me." Raven closed her bag and said over her shoulder, "Thanks alot mister." she turned and started to run pushing through the crowd.

Helping her with her bag he slipped his appointment book into her bag as she was gathering up her artwork. He sighed as he look at her sketches. "I hope those weren't important."

He winced finding out the sketches were indeed important. As she turned and ran off he picked up the crumpled sketches and tucked them inside his coat and turned to head back to his original destination.

Luckily her mother wasn't home yet. Giving Raven time to go upstairs shower and clean up the muddy footprints.

As she went through he bag she noticed an apointment book. Opening it she realized it was the man's. His must have fallen out an din her hurry she must have picke dit up.

She groaned softly. She couldn't just keep it. After the rain seemed to slow, she dressed warmly and grabbed her umbrella and left a note for her mother.

Raven peeked inside and found his adress. According to it his name was Janus. No last name just Janus. Sighing she read the adress and realized just how far his place was. She grabbed her bike from the garage and started for Janus's place.

Once he reached his home Janus smiled to himself. He knew the girl would come, perhaps not immeadiately but she would come. As a precaution he prepared what most everyone would call dinner, for him it was merely a way to pass the time, for two.

After that was done he sat down to wait, slipping the bookmark out of his current book and losing himself to it's pages.

Raven sat outside of the house and looke dat it and then the adress. The place wasn't big it wa shuge. This guy had a palce liek this and walked in the rain? "Has to be some excentric millionaire or something." she parked her bike and seeing the gate was open walked up the path to the front door and knocked.

As she waited she began to think about just leaving the book and going home as it was getting dark.

Hearing the knock Janus marked his place and closed the book and since no-one could see him covered the distance between his den and the front door in mere moments. He opened the door and smiled to himself as he spotted Raven.

"I see you found my appointment book. I had lost any hopes of getting it back when I realized it was missing."

He chuckles, "But where are my manners, do come inside. You must have had a very long trip out to find me." Stepping back and motioning towards the hallway.

Raven shook her head, "Really i just wanted to give this back to you.I really should be goign its getting dark and my mom will flip if I'm not home." She held the appointment book out to him.

Taking the appointment book he nodded a bit. "I suppose, though you could always call her and let her know you were alright. Besides I don't think she'd want you riding your bike back in the dark."

Taking a deep breath he smiled at her again. "Besides all that I ended up making too much for myself to eat tonight and I would hate to see it go to waste."

As Raven listend and looke dat him she sighed and said, "You have a point. i can just always tell her i'm staying at a friend's house." Yeah like she had any friends. Walking in side after wiping her feet she pulled her hood off and looked around, "Whoa! This place is nice." She could smell the food he had cooked and her stomach growled.

Janus nodded, "The phone is this way." He led her to the den, nodding in response to her comment.

"Thanks for the compliment, I decorated most of it myself." He waved towards the phone. "There's the phone, I'm going to go get us some food, it won't take long."

Leaving her alone he made his way into the kitchen and filled two plates full of the chicken and side dishes. He also poured both himself and his guest a glass of wine before setting it all on a tray and heading back to join her.

"Mom? Its Raven. yeah I know.. i know okay. i'm staying with anastacia. She left her book in my bag ookay. Look i'll be hoem in the morning." Raven hug up and sighed. Her mother was just so damn controlling.

"Gods its not like I'm gonna leave like dad." It was then she noticed Janus, "Oh sorry, my mom, she's just overly protective."

Janus chuckled and nodded, "Mothers tend to be that way." Setting the tray down on the coffee table he motioned towards the food. "Dig in."

He picks up one of the plates for himself and starts 'eating' slowly, watching Raven quietly for a few minutes.

"So you're an artist?"

"Somewhat. I just mess around. I've only really done one painting. " Raven said as she ate. He was a goos cook. Better than her mother even.

"It was just a landscape floatign around in my head." Raven took time to look around. Seeing the paintin over the fireplace she gasped at dropped her fork.

The paiting was an exact copy of the one she did though this one had to be older. "Who painted that?"

Glancing up at the picture Janus smiled. "That? That was something I did a long time ago, back when I was young." Young? What was he talking about, he didn't look much past his late twenties. "I was just sort of painting what I saw."

Reaching into a drawer he pulled out her sketches, salvaged and flattened out. "Well if your painting is anything like these you have quite a lot of potential."

He seemed so casual about the whole thing, as if it were somehow everday to have such a coincidance occur.

"I just wanted to know. My painting is of that landscape. Where is that place anyways?"

When he puleld otu her crumpled sketches she gasped, "Um yeah well those are new. I think they're better than my old stuff. YOu didn't have to pick them up.I could have just gotten a extension on my deadline."

Thinks for a moment, forkful of chicken half between his plate and his mouth. "Italy... not too far outside of Rome actually."

"I wanted to save them after you seemed so upset that they got rained on."

He chews on the current forkful thoughtfully as he looks up to the painting.

"Oh well thanks." Raven looked down and continued to eat silent for the moment before lookign up, "i'm Raven by the way. Raven Dracul."

"Pleasure to meet you, Raven. I'm Janus."

Smiling at her, "So I have a dragon in my house? Nice to know that I don't have to worry about anyone trying to break in." He winks and chuckles, apparently he's trying to lighten the mood.

Raven grinned and blushed, "At least you didn't make the vampyre jokes. The kids at my school and assholes. Of course my mother is no help, always telling me if i dressed liek a nrmal person." Raven trailed off and picked at her food. "Besdies if i was the daughter of Dracula, I don't think he have left me and my mother."

Janus winked and smiled knowingly, "Vampyres aren't something to be joked about. At least there weren't where I'm form. People took the matter of the living dead very seriously."

He nods, "Perhaps, perhaps not but who would be able to fathom the mind of such a being... were he to exsist that is."

Raven just shrugged, "I'm just saying if he would have taken the time to be with my mother and to have me he wouldn't have left."

Setting her fork down she looke dup at Anher and said, "I mean if I was Dracula and had been alone for that long and then found a woman to love and created a child with her, I would never want them from my sight."

Sighing, "Nevermind i'm just being silly. " Looking back up at him she sasked, "Janus, could...could i draw you?"
