Yesterday while driving to an appointment a truck came roaring past me in excess of eighty miles an hour. Standing atop the tool box was a dog, his body distorted by the force of the air against him. I almost screamed when the dog jumped down and was carried by that force to the edge. He straddled the back scrabbling to stay in the truck. I and others started beeping our horns to alert the driver. A woman with quick reactions passed him and slowed down and he had to slow down too. The dog was able to get back into the truckbed. What made me laugh out loud was that he flipped off the woman for her humane gesture. Sometimes you just got to shake your head at the absentminded ways of humans.

Dude must want his dog dead. They make a thing you can mount to the center of a truck bed to tie the dog to, safely away from the sides, but they can still reach to stick their nose in the wind, like they like to do. There's no excuse. Dog falling out probably would have caused human fatalities, too, from people trying to avoid it. Irresponsible! (steps down from soapbox)

Irresponsible and probably breaking the law.

I think most states have a alw on the books banning unrestrained animals in the bed of a pickup. It's similar to child restraint laws.

Worse than unrestrained dogs, is people who still pile a dozen kids into the open bed of a truck and take off down the freeway.
