Yesterday I saw a lot of water running off the edge of the Patio Roof, completely missing the gutters. So today I pulled out the ladder and up I went to see what was going on.

Well the Joke was on me. I haven't had a chance to clean the gutters and from what I found neither had the last owners. I was also dismayed to see the roof for the Patio and the roof of the trailer were covered with Pine Needles. This wasn't good. Without thinking too much about it up I went.

So now here I was playing crawling critter on my roof. I'm on hands and knees, balancing on the ridges and spreading my weight out as much as possible. It took me more than an hour but I got the roof cleared of all Pine Needles, Branches and the occasional Palm Frond. (As I pushed them over the edge my wife bagged them so our neighbors wouldn't complain.) By the time I was done with this my knees were well dented and killng me. (I'm crawlng around on ridges about an inch wide. I knew I should have gone back down for my Knee Pads.) We filled four Contractor sized Bags.

Then it was back to the gutters. This time I was smart, I had seen what was in there. I tossed a couple of buckets up. The first couple of inches in the gutter were tossed over the side along with anything growing in there. The rest went into the buckets and will be used for planting soil. (We're talking lovely black loam here.) I half filled a rather large Trash Can by the time I was done.

I got on a roll and just kept on going with the gutters. This wasn't fun but it was productive. I cleaned out the gutter on the Patio, (15 feet long, 6 inches wide and 8 inches deep) the gutter on the front of the trailer, (51 feet long, 6 inches wide and 6 inches deep) the gutter on the back of the trailer, (66 feet long, 5 inches wide and 6 inches deep, obviously these gutters were put on at different times.)

Oh what a pain in the butt this was. At least now it's done though.

A little hint for cleaning out gutters if you can't use one of those nifty hose attachments. A garden trowel helps a lot.

Oh and the soil I saved? I'm going to let that dry som more then I'll pack it five gallon buckets for use whenever I plant something.

That's what they always keep saying. Clean your gutters before the summer arrives, damn it! :p

LOLOL

I would have but I have so many projects going on that it truly wasn't an emergency. (Especialy since we were in a record breaking drought.)

Ahh well, it's done now.
