A couple of weeks ago i got a wireless keyboard for my pc but didn't really like it. So somehow in the process of reinstalling my original keyboard the drivers got erased. I went to HP's website and downloaded the drivers that were for my original keyboard but something is not right. All the keyboard functions are the same ( shortcut keys, media player buttons etc...) except that my homepage has changed. No matter what i do i'm always taken to the AOL homepage instead of my own. If you click tools and then internet options it says that my homepage is the default, not AOL. It even goes to my homepage if i click the home icon. The problem is if i press the internet shortcut key on my keyboard it brings up that damn AOL homepage! Does anyone know how i can fix this?

i can't really help you other than to empathize. aol sucks, period.

those who can help you might want to know what browser and OS you're using though. i'd probably suggest posting that information for their reference.

Left click the icon for the keyboard in your task bar.

It should open and allow you to set each shortcut key the way you want.

I think you will find the current setup is for AOL, just change the setting to the home page you want and away you go.

If there is not an icon in your task bar, it should be accessable through either your control panel (Keyboards section) or through your program files.

The problem is my keyboard shortcut key taking me to AOL. Once i'm online i can click the home button to go to my homepage. Is there any way i can change the keyboard internet shortcut button's default homepage?

All i can do there is to change the function of the shortcut key. It doesn't give me an option to change the homepage.

i looked in the book and tried these directions (wag's and ezzy's) and i'm not having any luck finding the thing to set the buttons either. i remember doing it once a few years ago but i haven't fucked with it in ages.

i also reinstalled my original kybd about a year ago so that may have screwed up the options setting for me and you.

i'd suggest checking the hp website... i've always found their tech support section to be useful for shit like this. if you're having trouble, odds are someone else has had it too and they have it addressed in their somewhere. just search the help section for "easy access buttons."

i'm looking at the compaq site and from what i'm gathering there's a separate driver for the easy access buttons. i might be making an incorrect inference here but i think i'm right. i haven't looked in great detail but all the descriptions are for drivers for those keys specifically, rather than for the keyboard itself.

krak monkey, have you tried uninstalling the keyboard, using a boring, old-fashioned corded keyboard, then re-installing the keyboard?

the old settings and homepage might be lurking there somewhere: installing an old keyboard might be just what you need to purge the memory and force the software to look at the correct information.

I went to the HP site and they now have a driver for configuring the shortcut keys. Now i'm able to do this...

I wonder why that wasn't included with the original drivers i downloaded? It seems to have everything working normal again. NO MORE AOL!!!!!!!!! :nana: :nana: :nana: Thanks for all your help guys. :D

The main reason the appear to add drivers is that when they first build a keyboard they build it without the extra buttons, they configure the drivers that may be needed, then they build the fancy version with 6 or 7 buttons and then make a new driver, then they build the 14 extra button version and sort out the driver for that.

Each of the additional drivers ends up as a seperate entity away from the original drivers.

I'm happy you got it sorted.

Does anyone know if the keyboard shortcuts for AOL have been updated?

I have been trying to get on Lit Chat everyday for two months, I just keep refreshing my screen, but :(

I'm sure AOL has improved over the last little while... Maybe they have a good chat now. Couldn't be worse than Lit Chat... lol

Dial up if you're looking to chat - my handle is WankSuperStar@NetScape dot com

I am always amazed when someone says they have AIM as their messenger. I've thought of looking for a compatible interface so I can ask them for a link to their myspace page.

I can't seem to find a broker that is compu-serve friendly these days....

I've been dialing up my favorite BBS for quite a while with no bringalingagling handshake from the other end!
