My wife was born in the Philippines and came to the US in 1984. After she became a US citizen, she petitioned for her unmarried offspring to join her. That was in 1993, before I met her. The three who were under 21 joined her fairly quickly, but the two who were over 21 have had a long wait. It has been 13 years already, and it will be more time. One of the daughters has four children and we are hoping they will be able to come with her, if and when the time arrives.

This has nothing to do with writing or anything else; I'm just griping.

We haven't really been parted that long because we have made several trips to the Philippines, but it does suck.

Sympathies, Boxlicker. We've had dealings with them as well. I'm convinced that the INS is actually part of our immigration policy in more ways than one. Their protocols seems designed to be so tedious, confusing, and labyrinthine that only people who really, really want to come to the United States will ever make it through them.
