This is gonna seem petty to some of you... Some of you will probably roll your eyes and ignore this ranting.. But I have to get this off my chest, so feel free to bury this thread after...

My slight crisis happened this afternoon.. With nothing but time to kill, apartment cleaned and a certain someone away raising hell in a mall (;)) I decided to fire up the 'ol Playstation (yes, thats all I have.. no X Box, no PS2.. I can't afford to throw 400 bucks out the door like that even if it is for a system) and enjoy a few games I haven't played in weeks..

But much to my horror.. My memory card.. a suped up 40 buck card that was supposed to be like 8 cards in one.. was erased completly!

All the games I saved, all the hours I played... The fact I was two games away from going to the playoffs with a kick ass Florida Panthers team on NHL 2001... The fact I had played hours of GT2.. I was in my 3rd season of Madden 2002 and had the best shot yet of making the Chargers a super bowl winner...

All of it.. gone.. *sob*

*sigh* Ok.. I feel better now.. Just had to get that off my chest.

as a girl that has dated lots of gamers..i feel for ya! i'm sorry that happened to you :D

Sony doesn't sell those 8 in one memory cards and there is a reason. They suck. They will erase themselves for no reason at all. I was at the end of Metal Gear Solid when it happened to me. Invest in Sony cards next time and you won't have this problem.

Why do I get this feeling you don't mean.. Ah well. :D

And ya know it's not like I play every day.. Like I said I go weeks at a time not getting a chance to play.. So I'd hafta say all the memory stored had been collected for well over a year...

I don't know why it's all gone.. Power surge maybe? The gaming gods striking wrath upon me for not having gotten a newer game system??

*shrug*

<----- Good hummored eyeroll....
I'm sorry for your loss...

Man...don't you hate when that happens. I played GTA3 for a whole weekend once because i was bound and determined to get into the god damned stadium and when i finally did i saved it..well the NEXT DAY when i had a friend over to show them that i wasn't lying about it i found that my fucking room mates dog ATE MY MEMORY CARD!!!!!!

Needless to say my friend never believed me.....that dog was a permenent OUTSIDE dog after that....and i have yet to get back into the stadium.

and don't you hate it when people go to the mall and leave you behind ;)

Heh, I haven't even played any console games in such a long time....maybe I should buy more games for my Dreamcast.

Btw, I did play X-box and Dreamcast alot during last weekend and now kick ass in DOA 3. :)

YES!! See if you had taken me to the mall with you and let me watch you raise hell... None of this would have ever happened!

Or at the very least I wouldn't have run across this problem until later on in the week.. or month... ;)

I know a guy who was harassed by a jerk, so he stole the jerk's memory card.

I said it was wrong, he effectively stole hours and hours of the jerk's life. I bet it must've been satisfying.

My (ultra) memory card seems fine, last time I checked... a few months ago.

Makes me nervous.

Any memory card can get data corrupted. It happens. It sucks, but it happens. The 2nd or 3rd party ( whatever the hell they are called ) accessories for consoles are usually ( I SAID usually !! NOT always ) not quite the same standard of quality as the official accessories are.

Try if at all possible to buy only Sony made products for your Sony consoles. X-Box for your X-Box and so on and so forth.

I know that not all accessories are available in all areas by the makers of the official items. Shop around on the internet or check the gaming mags for comparisons. I have had 2 of the SuperMega Memory cards. And even owning those ... when I found memory cards on sale cheap ( like the Laura Croft cards or the football, soccer, basketball ones ) I bought them and duplicated my saves onto them. One of the SuperMega cards never had a problem ... the other constantly erased itself anytime someone touched it.

At least you know it wasnt done deliberately.

My kids have this habit of erasing my games off of my memory card...

Sigh...

I'm a big time gamer and I'd be crazy if I lost my PlayStation saved games. I just started a new game of Legend of the Dragoon last night and managed to piss of Storm in the process :D Don't I love picking up a game and getting ahead of him...not that I'm competitive or anything ;)

I really watch my son around the Playstation so he doesn't erase the games.

I work at a vid game store & as a rule my co-workers & I discurage customer from buying those 3rd party mega memory card. Due to it being unstable. Not all of them are unstable but most are.

FYI~
If you do decide in the future to get a PS2. The 3rd party ones WILL NOT work on the system to save PS1 games.

I feel for ya Lion. I'd be flipping out if my game was erased. :(

Arc - Thanks for that tip .. I had been thinking about getting a PS2, but in the end I may just get a Gamecube.. I've been impressed with the games... Not to mention Wrestlemania X8 looks so kick ass it isn't even funny. :)

Sabbath - A day later I'm feeling better... what killed me was losing all that GT2 info and my Madden 2002 franchise game.. Losing those two stun because both games had HOURS spent on them (I figured out I had spent about 90 hours in total on Madden 2002 going through the first three seasons, drafting, signing, ordering rosters, ect..)

Silver - Most times I do buy "official" products because I know they'll be the highest quality.. The reason I picked up the 8 in 1 was because I was told by a friend that the one he had was great and never "crashed" on him.

On the bright side it did last for a year before crashing.. Who knows.

As far as consoles go... I pretty much own them all. PS2 has such a huge library to draw from, what with all the PS games it can play. And being out for over a year now... thay have a jump on the rest of the pack by having a solid title base. I own 3 Cube games, only because with games being $40-50 a pop, I want quality, not quantity. I own Halo and SpiderMan for X-Box so far and am looking into a few others. There is just not a lot out there for these 2 systems right now. I know as time goes by, this will hopefully change, but right now ... I am waiting and drooling for RE GC.

One thing that does concern me is the fact that one of the top developers of X-Box just quit. Not a very good sign with the Box only being out less than a year. Microsoft is already taking some heavy losses on the system itself. Many of the first released X-Boxes have been returned due to problems with the system cooling fan unit.

PS2 just has so much going for it. And if the price drops this summer as rumor has reported ... given the choice of a PS2 for $200 with it's title library standing behind it, and shelling out the same money for a GameCube, I really think more people will choose the PS2. And X-Box has such a hefty price tag for the working Joe Consumer.

In order to use the DVD player for X-Box, you have to shell out another $30 for the DVD package that with the PS2, you have right away and can use your controller to navigate the DVD menu. It's all about the money.
