Life without hearing the old Bush-wacker give the State of the Union speech is going to be like a life without rutabagas.

Guess I'll just go to bed and pray for a nocturnal emission.

When he speaks I start to doze..

The State of the Union speech hasn't been relevant or important since... ever?

A blessing, I'm sure. Might keep a recording of "The Great Speeches of George Bush" handy for those nights when insomnia strikes.

On second thought, this is the same Yale graduate who said the problem with the French was they didn't have a word for "entrepreneur." So there might be a danger of it keeping you up laughing.

I missed it too, was in-flight. The news people said this was "a chastened Bush" and very different from last year's Address.

Couldn't change the channel fast enough after "NCIS".

First time I've ever seen the Winter X Games.

South Park was on, too.

Hey Rumpy, we need to go into business selling that recording, we might make about 1.83 each...

I can appreciate the variety.

I used to be political, but now I consider Republicans and Democrats the heads and tails of the same plugged nickel.

"Bugger them all", while initially quaint, would become a tiresome post in the political threads. So I don't. Post.

But what a lovely title for an erotic story!

Anal Category, of course.

Yes, but it couldn't be political. Imagine, if you would, Ted Kennedy and Sam Brownback (to keep things equal.) Ugh. I shudder at the thought.

Well I thought Tom "Let me buy your vote" Delay would buy one for sure....and I was counting on Pat "I am god's voice" Robertson for another one...

I would be sympathetic, but I am required to attend a speech being given by the shrub's father next week at school. "I purposely took tonight off so as not to overdose on bush," said the lesbian.
Gotta love a private Southern Baptist University.
*sigh*

Well darlin' look at the bright side...you won't need to take you dictionary...only your Nodoze...LOL....

I did see the last 10 minutes, and heard of some of the earlier statements.

He used 'hope' a lot of times, and tried for 'upbeat.' Some nice rhetorical flourishes.

He also tried some campaingn slurs and slogans, such as "If you're talking to al qaeda, we want to know" to sum up the warrantless surveillance issue.

As far as Iraq, he proposed no 'turn', and compared himself to Lincoln, King, etc., who didn't slack when they had troubles.

He wants to put the 'reasons' given for the war aside. And any early problems of the war. He agreed some shortcomings happened along the way, but said that, while sincere discussion is always welcome, excessive 'second guessing' was not really helpful(in some cute phrase).

IOW we proceed full steam ahead bringing freedom despite the domestic Cassandras and doubters, whose patriotism is a wee bit suspect (implied with innuendo).

He spoke of more money for AIDS, but of course he's diverted funding to Churchbased abstinence oriented programs, away from those stressing 'safer sex' with condoms.

For all the appeal to bipartisanship, it rang a bit hollow, and one commentator said that the only real piece of law that could come through without fights is about lobbying.

Apparently the Dems sat on their hands. or clapped 'ironically' at some points.

I'll post the whole thing from the NYT tomorrow if anyone's interested.

I heard this snippet:

"The same is true of Iran, a nation now held hostage by a small clerical elite that is isolating and repressing its people. The regime in that country sponsors terrorists in the Palestinian territories and in Lebanon -- and that must come to an end. The Iranian government is defying the world with its nuclear ambitions, and the nations of the world must not permit the Iranian regime to gain nuclear weapons. America will continue to rally the world to confront these threats.

Tonight, let me speak directly to the citizens of Iran: America respects you, and we respect your country. We respect your right to choose your own future and win your own freedom. And our nation hopes one day to be the closest of friends with a free and democratic Iran."

As close friends as we are to Iraq?

If I were to write a how to on public speaking, Dubya would rule the "Not like this column".

As to the state of the union, I happen to live in it and strangely, the one I see daily bears very little resemblence to the one he talks about.

Now come on... evangelicals are about unity.

A pity, you pukes should have watched and listened to the death knell of Dems in the coming November elections.

Quelle demage...
