Damn. Eartha Kitt has died.

Sorry.. I know I'm not an AH guy... not cool enough yet

But I just saw this.... wow.. this was an amazing woman, and its kind of ironic that she goes at a time when one of her songs is so well broadcast at this time of year :(

I saw her live somewhere a long time ago. I don't even remember the occasion but I remember the electricity in the performance. Few have ever been able to match her on stage. RIP Eartha.

Everyone is welcome here - :rose:

We just heard her version of Santa Baby yesterday on the radio while driving home from the grandparents. We told our kids who she was.

They weren't impressed. They like the more modern versions (which we detest). Daughter said, "Her voice just sounds lazy, like she doesn't care."

We found that very interesting. But it does make sense. Young kids can't quite understand the sultry and sexy goodness Ms. Kitt managed to convey in her performances.

:(

Thanks....

This is so true, I doubt my daughter would be impressed either, if it don't have 16 beats to the bar forget it :rolleyes

She was, an outstanding performer and as VM said above, electric in her presence..

Tis a sad day - for the more appreciative among us... she will be missed :rose:

Double damn. Am having acquaintenances and friends drop like flies this Christmas season (a 100-year-old aunt gave it up last Thursday). I had thought Eartha Kitt was already gone, but sad to hear she actually has. Sultry voice and a very brave lady.

Rest well Lady... I hope that you are sitting there with the rest of the greats... doing what you all did best... sing, perform, laugh, love.... thank you for enriching our lives

Where she is has great hamonies and solos :rose:

Another unique personality and entertainer passes on. :(

She was so cool. A voice like warm honey.

RIP, Eartha...thanks for all the tunes. :rose:

RIP, Eartha. I remember hearing you sing "Santa Baby" the first time, and it was one of the most erotic things I had ever heard. Remember, this was in the early fifties, and I was barely in my teens. When I saw you in a movie or something, your looks matched your voice and style. ;)

In the mid-'70s, Ella Fitzgerald was one of the most visible artists in jazz, thanks largely to television appearances and a popular Memorex commercial. ...

Thank god for Memorex (and other recording media) because Eartha and others can still be enjoyed by those not fortunate enough to see her perform in person.

In terms of famous people I admire/keep track of this year has seen George Carlin, Heath Ledger, Betty Page, Eartha Kitt, Isaac Hayes, Bo Diddley, Arthur C. Clarke, Bobby Fischer and Edmund Hillary take a final bow.

Not been a good year for me. :(

Courage, Tech, it only has another five days to go!

I saw Eartha Kitt perform in Paris in the seventies. She was sensational and in French even better.:)

After her big hit with "Santa Baby" she recorded something called "Ishkedar" or something like that. It was in Turkish. Anyhow, I read that she was highly intelligent and spoke several languages, including Turkish and French. I always enjoyed listening to Eartha Kitt and watching her. :(

She reportedly started out with a hard life, abandoned by her parents to live with other relatives as a very young girl and later pulled herself up by her bootstraps, so to speak. I read somewhere that the only family she considered that she had were her fans, and that she didn't identify herself with any one group, i.e. blacks, but identified only with her many fans.

She was a class act, through and through...

I saw her maybe twenty? years ago and was astonished at her energy and verve. She left the stage after a couple of encores and was waiting in the bar to personally thank each and every fan for coming and listening to her. After thanking everyone who cared to shake her hand - she kissed a few us; she sang 'La Vie En Rose' in true caberet style......
