I am currently reading this mega blockbuster and so far it meets the hype and attention it has gotten. At one point in the book one of the characters, Silas, after completing an assignment takes a leather whip and whips himself to cleanse away sins as he is a devout follower of a particular religion.

Has anyone ever assigned a sub/slave to punish themselves in this manner for commiting a wrong or to pleasure their dom?

I read this book. It was entertaining, although the end kind of left me. (Read The Dante Club next, if you liked this one. Also, anything by Caleb Carr.)
