The DAs office just announced that they will seek the death penalty for the man accused of killing Samantha Runion.
I'll try to find a link with the whole thing.

I'm sorry if it comes across that way. I just feel that if this man does get the death penalty justice will be served. I know not all agree with me and you're right I could have put it in a better way I suppose.

What I'm cheering is not so much the death of a human so much as the death of a monster and justice being served.

Maybe we should wait til a verdict of guilty is reached before deciding how to kill him?

whats the score with the murder then. havent heard anything about it on this side of the pond

He isn't a monster; he's a human being. THAT is what's scary.

Well, if he did kill this poor girl, then he really is a monster.

However, cheering for death, takes justice too far.

No one that imposes death, be it jury and judge, find anything to cheer about when giving this sentence.

In fact, they do it with great pain and sadness.

It is hard to tell someone, you are going to be killed.

And hard for those administering the death sentence....in other words, those killing the person.

IT is a somber punishment.

Which is why it is so aggregious to see people partying and celebrating outside the prison as the person is executed.

The death penalty was once revered as the Ultimate Deterrance.... The Old Testament strictly calls for justice as "An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth", no more, no less.

Why is it that when in an Islamic country a man is beheaded for raping someone... nobody makes a fuss? Yet when a brutal KILLER is convicted and sentenced to be put to death....all hell breaks loose from the liberal populace.....it's CRUEL & UNUSUAL punishment!?!

What is cruel and unusual is the fact that the VICTIM was harmed in the ultimate manner. They/he/she/them are now dead! Never to breathe again, never to enjoy another sunrise or sunset, never to hold and/or be held by loved ones again....never to do anything ever again other than occupy a finite space 6 feet under the surface of the Earth for eternity!

Enough with the PC bullshit! If you maliciously and without warrant kill a human being, you are a blight upon humanity which must not be allowed to remain as a part of the human populace!

My vote is a resounding YES!... there is a system in place. Is it perfect? NO!.... Does it work!?! So far, so good!

From a civilian standpoint.......... you want to murder and act upon it, you forfiet all rights to life. 'nuff said!

We are talking about the Samantha Runnion case, Wiz. She was a very beautiful 5 year old who was taken from her front yard by Mr. Avila, allegedly, raped, left by the side of the road, posed in a lewd posture, dead! .

Many in this country find it impossible to call the one who did this a "person" or "human". If, indeed, Avila did it and is found guilty, I will argue with Lavy or any other Liberal that simple death may not be enough!

I would be agreeable to a lottery for Avila.......... Old testament style. If the evidence proves him guilty beyond reproach, then I'd be numero uno in the line of people that rips the limbs from his demented carcass............. only to watch him die in a slow and extremely agonizing manner.

An eye for an eye, Damnit!

I understand life is a precious gift. But like I've said before those who don't understand that and find joy in killing. Shouldn't be granted the gift of life. I realize it seems as if I'm cheering his death. And maybe that primal part of me is. Does that make me petty and vengeful? I'm aware that it does.
And while I won't drink a toast to his death or go out in front of where he's being executed. I will feel justice has been done.

I have fathered five children, of which one is a 19 year old daughter (the other four be my boys)...... God have mercy on the soul that fucks with my children! God sure as hell knows that I won't

As a father, I can assuradely tell you... Were I the father of a five year old rape/murder victim...................... he'd never have made it this far!

I'm a loving man yet I cannot begin to imagine forgiving an animal such as Avila.

i disagree i dont think the death penalty should be used anytime ... no human has the right to take another's life whatever the reason and whatever they have done ... i dont know if i believe the bible or in god ... but as much as i do i think the only person that has the right to end life is god

i know im not going to change your opinion over this now so there's no point us arguing :) i just wanted to give my opinion on this thread

I heard today on the radio that the prosecutor is going for the death penalty and nothing but. He's already turned down a plea bargain, which to me signals that the defense thinks they're in deep trouble. I also can't believe the DA would be this adamant unless he was 100% certain he could nail this slime. I'm thinking the accused won't be with us too much longer, and I'm fine with that in this case.

he should get the death penalty. raping and murdering a 5 year old girl? i mean they found dna samples from him under the girl's fingernails. if this kind of thing doesnt get the death penalty, what does? i wouldnt go as far to say people should cheer about him being killed, its a sad situation whether he gets the death penalty or not. i agree with floridaguy, enough of the touchy feely pc bullshit. ppl need to realize the hard truth that theres just some evil motherfucking people out in the world that cant be saved and need to be put to death for the good of everyone.

I can/do//respect/hear NO.............. Just wanna say............ your AV's Ass is so FINE!!!!!

And yes, for me, NO means NO!

I have to admit that I think the death penalty would be the most suitable punishment for him if he is convicted, IMO.

On the other hand, I doubt he'd last very long doing hard time in prison. As the story goes, they do tend to frown on child rapists there. This guy may get a dose of his own medicine.

Now I'm not so sure...

This is one of the reasons I don't follow news about murders.

I sure hope he is innocent, who ever he is. What a terrible thing to do to another person.

If he is guilty, I think they should lock him up and throw away the key so it doesn't happen again.

I agree. I don't believe in the death penalty. I think it demeans us as human beings.

I do, however, understand the feelings of those who are bereaved in such a fashion and those who have children of a similar age.

In a deep dark dungeon with bats and squirmy things, bread and water.

No pot to piss in.

That is if he's truly guilty. (Sure sounds like it)

Then we won't have to deal with the expense of all those appeals either.
